Guild Wars Nightfall is not an expansion for Guild Wars, it is a stand alone campaign that can be played without owning any other Guild Wars game, but if you happen to own one, you can merge Nightfall with it and gain two additional slots for creating new characters, two new classes each with their own new skills, and permissions for your already existing characters to travel to Elona.
Nightfall offers an all new story spread out across 20 new missions in the land of Elona. Elona is a land with an egyptian setting, so expect to play a lot in the desert environment, but not only limited to because Nightfall adds a lot of new content and landmass to explore.
Nightfall is essentially the same as any other Guild Wars game, with both its flaws and qualities. The only new notable feature that Nightfall introduces are Heroes. Heroes are AI controlled party members, that you can control, equip and develop as you see fit. Also you can choose which skills they will have for the encounter to follow, as well as disable particular skills they use in combat.
Nightfall is a great way to both expand your Guild Wars experience and start fresh if you haven't done so as it offers many hours of great gameplay and places to explore or players to fight against.

Very WoW like. Better to play with friends as some quests require skilled group.

Despite some near impossible battles and some other frustrating moments, the new features in Nightfall are superb.
