An epic game that does not disappoint.

Final Fantasy XII brings us to the world of Ivalice, a world in the midst of a great war between the Archadian Empire and the Rozzarian Empire, with Dalmasca in the middle. You begin playing as Vaan, a would-be Sky Pirate, and head out on an adventure to defeat the Archadian Empire.
The Graphics of the game are superb. The level of detail is stunning and truly brings the world to life. The animations of the characters in the game and of the worlds themselves show off the power of the PS2. Just walk into any shop or any room and look around. You will see tons of weapons, bottles, books and such just lying around. The developers really spent a lot of time putting life into the world.
I love the sounds of the game. It really does have a wonderful soundtrack. Once you get into the later levels, however, you start to hear some music repeated from earlier areas. That’s fine with me, but it would be nice to truly have something unique for each area. Also, the voice acting, while it is good, isn’t the greatest. None the less, this game still sounds great.
This Final Fantasy game took the longest to get into the full gameplay than any other I can remember. But once you do get into it (it takes a few hours of play), everything works smoothly. The Gambit system takes the longest to learn out of everything.
The new Active Dimension Battle system is superb. It’s nice to no longer have the random battles and the slow-down it gives you. With the ADB System, they brought “hack-n-slash” elements to the Final Fantasy world. A wonderful addition.
Another thing I really liked about this game is the way it handled the sidequests. In past games, you seemed to go through a ton of storyline gaming, then all of the sudden you were able to do all the sidequests. You would then spend the next 20-30 hours completing the sidequests and by the time you got back to the story, you had forgotten what was going on. In XII, you can begin the sidequests right from the start (the hunts being the main one). With this, you could do the story for a while, then do a few sidequests, then back to the story and so on so that by the time I reached the end of the game, I had progressed smoothly through the story and completed most of the sidequests.
There are a lot of people out there who say this Final Fantasy has a weak story. I disagree. I say it has a very good story. You truly get the feeling that it’s not just you and you alone to save the world, but that you are part of a large group all trying to save the world. I really got the feeling that I was part of something big as apposed to being the entire fighting force of good.
Overall, I think Final Fantasy XII is a great addition to the Final Fantasy Series. From the innovative game system to the well written and deep story, everything about it is excellent.
