The races of Tyria reveal themselves in this exciting trailer for Guild Wars 2.
the Charr looks pretty awesome
@Hydeen and Silentwraith234, the character you talking about is called Charr.
I think id go with the second character from the black citadel
totally the half ox guy... sound kinda like grunt >:D
@irutehe Graphics aren't what devs should be focusing on, though. It's an engrossing story, dynamic characters, and the overall 'fun factor' that make or break a game. A given game could be running DX19 (before anyone comments, I know it doesn't exist...) but if it's not fun, the overall product is horrible. On the other side of this argument however, there are games on the 5th gen consoles that people still play. Why? I can guarantee you it's not the amazing graphics... Building new engines and developing graphics that fully utilize the latest cards takes time and money. So in order to not take 10 years and billions of dollars developing a game, devs cut corners (usually in content or story), to the detriment of the overall game. The long and short is this mini-rant being that this push for constantly improving graphics is what's actually holding devs back, not the inferior graphic quality of consoles...
guild wars 2!!!!!!! where are uuuu!!?
@ jrgoalie33 Yes, Ive been looking into swtor for over a year now. haven't heard of the new warhammer though (till you mentioned it). I don't mean to sound like im putting the genre down, I'm just saying I wish something new would pop out...like...howbout some powers come from the characters eyes instead of there hands or a wand......or maybe for throwing weapons, you throw your axe and you have to rip it out of your opponent to rethrow it instead of a new throwing axe mysteriously appearing in your characters hand....NEW IDEAS is all im getting at. And guildwars doesn't have new ideas. Its wow-fest all over again. I'm not into this game nor will I ever be. I tryed guild wars before....Feels to kiddish to me. Not to mention I have never played a game where skills got nerfed at least 1-3 times per week because people who have a hard time playing cry till they get there way, making the REAL players that know what there doing in PVP suffer. It's a wasteful experience.
@texasjgc There's actually two rpg's in development that break away from this genre you speak of. You've probly already looked into them but just in case you havent they are The Old Republic and Warhammer: Dark Millenium.
I've been playing Rpg's since the 80's......I see nothing new as far as the genre. Same "dark" feeling for the baddies, rustic old looking ruins-like levels, and dragons......Anyway, I hope they put out a trial so I can try it first.
This is enchantingly beautiful ! :D

@wumpscutnut duh I know it doesn't take much to maintain a rig when its already built to play game as high/ultra settings I do that every year. but not ever gamer can do that so they stick with consoles also its the Dev discretion to port or make the game for console and PC from the ground up for each device. They done it before they just choose save money also since console market they will get more money form that side of gaming and port console ver over. any way the whole point of my comment that you replied to is its not console gaming fault. blame the Dev's.
This could be the most beautiful game I've ever seen. Not necessarily in technical effects - there, Crysis is still king. But when you factor in the artistic component, GW2 is unparalleled. I mean, just look at it. It's mind-boggling.
@OmegaTau It dosen't that much to maintain a PC if you know what you are doing. Its a fact that alot of multiplatform games are held back on PC because of console limitations.
@irutehe if it wasn't for console's alot of devs wouldn't exist if it wasn't for console's, gaming would of never be as popular as it is. and this is coming from pc gamer/console gamer. not ever one can buy a 400 series card like we can and keep are rig updated ever time a "crysis" type game comes out.
@ManOnMars5 We need less games for consoles. The consoles have kept the developers from reaching the true potential, we have at the moment, as they got stuck in the ugly outdated DX9 like graphics. If it weren't for those damned consoles we would have reached DX11 graphics in every game by now if not more. And the difference is huge.
we NEED games like this on console!!
I liked the first one and this one looks good aswell, however I don't like frog fighting on my side...limit the fantasy..
Spectacular.
Pleasantly surprised, again.
Nice video! Makes the game look more appealing to me. Hope they put jumping into the game hehe.

@andyclass50, They are using the same engine as GW1 But highly modified to the point it looks completely new. The detail in the game looks on par with Aion/TERA. But instead of using CryEngine/UnrealEnging The GW engine was made from the ground up for the game and as a MMO engine so i'm hopping it will run flawlessly as Aion always seemed to die when entering towns and raids. They have a lot of videos of 2 classes on the guildwars2 website. you should check it out. Looks amazing.

i can't wait till this game comes out so i can get re united with my Guild/family
@TJamesA I agree with all of that, WoW definitely changed everything, mostly for the worst in my opinion. I liked guild wars when it came out, but I didn't have the hardware to run it smoothly and at the time and I didn't have the money to upgrade. I enjoyed it a lot more than the other MMOs that were and still are in vogue. Oh well, I will play this when it comes out and probably give SWTOR a shot as well. I?ve been waiting for a scii-fi MMO since anarchy online, which incidentally was also to demanding for my outdated system.
Nice colorful world! SWTOR will stomp this game in terms of playerbase, I wonder when in 2011 NCsoft is planning on releasing? @Greggor: UO, DAoC, Asheron's Call and Everquest were mmorpgs of the summa cum laude breed. WoW changed the genre, Guild Wars never followed the generic WoW formula though, it is a fun and unique online experience unlike most mmorpg's out right now.
Iam definately getting this, I have just finished dragon age origins and it's expansion pack. Iam all pumped up for more fantasy rpgs.

Honestly the best MMO experience that I've ever had was pre-renaissance UO. WoW didn't even touch it, in fact wow didn?t hold my attention for more than a few months. Then again I'm not crazy about quests and PvP zones, just let me build my character and do what I want wherever I want. Everything since has been too damn structured.
doesn't matter who the game ripps as log as it is good...wow ripped others...but it did it good..it's time for other games to take what wow did to the next step
@ j-directorate charr are canine-like humanoids while tauren are ox-like humanoids. If you feel that wolves and cows are that similar, then guildwars is definitely ripping off wow in that respect. Asura creates golems, while gnomes use machines, soooo really? Magic = Technology nowadays? Sylvari sure could be a derivative from elves, but its not like Blizzard invented the elven race, and therefore other games using elves must be ripping off blizzard. to sum up, I don't really get where the similarities come from, if you played a wider range of games, you will realize a lot of these archetypes were invented for a while now, and had been in use in numerous games, players shouldn't make it sound like blizzard invented MMO archetypes, they simply advanced MMO gameplay.
Is it just me or did Charr look like Tauren and Asura look like and seem like Gnomes. Honestly I haven't played the first one but I am going to try this one out. Also the Sylvari seemed like Elves. I'm not trolling or anything or saying that they're ripping off WoW, but they bear some similarities. Also, the logo looks really Similar to Dragon Age's. I hope this game is really cool! I look forward to not spending $15 a month! Thank you ArenaNet for not being like money hungry Blizzard and charging $15 a month!
omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg!
@zoeyleft Elves and gnomes? I don't see any in this trailer. I only see Asura and Sylvari. This game is going to be one crazy ride, I know it is going to blow my mind. Have playied GW and WoW, both have been fun, but GW in the end seem to take the win over WoW, in my experience. And now that they add a persistant world to GW2, that will be mindblowing. All that as been written, if that is in the game, this game will be surely awesome. And they use HAVOK engine. I got nothing to complain about the graphics, looks really sick for a MMO.
the only new mmo am waiting it am done of old mmos like wow and others its time for new fantasy world
the game looks nice, and it's free...

I played the first one quiet a bit, but then got into WoW. I donno, this seems promising, plus if its free, def a must try!
The beast guy is voiced by the same actor who voiced Cyrus in Dawn of War 2 ; )
This series needs a huge graphics overhaul. I popped in Guild Wars on my "old" account. Maxed out the graphics and it's just plain fugly.. Doesn't look like that will change with Guild Wars 2. It's too bad. It's 2010, not 2004.. where World of Warcraft, although an old graphics engine, still looks good till this day. Yet GW sees no change in visuals. That's just lazy.
I highly doubt graphics will change much since they were already better than any other mmorpg I have played/seen and the game would only become harder to support. But what I'm expecting to see are improvements to the depth of the game, i.e. advanced trading systems, more character customisations available in terms of skills and equipment, bigger and/or less linear maps, etc. But if there is no subscription fee again, I will get it anyway.
i have to say it was kinda cool until they screwed up with the gnome race... omg that was so uncool and ridicolous hahaha... they even kinda screwed up on the elves imo. the elves should look more wisdomy and less anime... less spiky hair for instance hope they trash the gnome race and do it better, also where are the dwarfs man??? edit: when i say elves, i meant the last race, not the druids race
I wanna fight the big dragon!! Mommy can I, can I pleeeeeeassse?!
if its still the same monstrously lame armor merchant trading system... this game can seriously suck my balls :/
hmm more detailed graphics mean nothing if player environment interactions remain the same. there looks like there is some improvement but its hard to tell from that clip. basically i want realistic weapon impacts and rag-doll, oh and the moon on a stick...
as long as online is free.... i will buy...I will play...
the game doesnt look dated. looks really good.
I'm just worried the game will look dated. I spent hundreds of hours on guild wars and all the expansions, but I don't want to be looking at the same scenery rendered the near exact same way... I just want a large gap of difference from 1 and 2.
The way they made the skill bar and how it worked made the first guild wars so much fun. Hopefully they will not do away with it =)
