Because I was watching my Texans escape with an overtime win I missed the big event today. What/how it and what/how were the rewards?

2-3 random rares and exotics, 20 slot bag, and an all-stat exotic accessory.

Yeah, I was able to nab Leaf of Kudzu and sell it right away before the price uber dropped.
Though the chain events leading up to the chest were pretty brutal, it was worth it for the reward, at least for me and some other people I know.

The event was awesome and it was also totally free. I don't get why you are complaining. They even gave you stuff to play it. Sheesh some people.
If this was FAILIZZARD they would have charged you 60 dollars over 4 months for that one event. ANet, a small underdog company, just added a brand new zone with its own unique events for F R E E. FREE. Get it? You should, because it's FREE.

If it's anything like Friday's event in Lion's Arch, lag makes it difficult to enjoy the event as ArenaNet would hope.

Sorry, I really like GW2, but this event was no fun at all. I know, I know it was a free addition. But there were so many ways that the thing could have been done better or more efficient. The 'grind' to get the reward was ridiculous, tbh.

Gotta admit I found the event terrible, masses of people getting destroyed by not yet visible enemies, I myself got disconnected 5 times.
Since i wasn't even 80(65) everything but the bag was pretty worthless.
Not as bad as part one in lion's arch but still unacceptable imo.

I liked the event on the whole, but man those reinforcement segments dragged on too long.
The culling problems just ended up being more funny than anything. Seeing the whole zerg get wiped was somehow enjoyable.

The event itself wasn't that bad, but it seemed to scale too high (reinforcement waves took way too long), plus the lag really put a damper on any fun it might have been.

Indeed.
The reinforcements phase though could use more mortars, heck, we should've been given mortars or be able to buy them to use in this event.
The double hp bar though is annoying, if they only had 1 single bar, it'd be better.

Not sure why everyone's complaining, personally I enjoyed the chain of events even if they didn't give any rewards....I had a little lag and GPS dropped to four or five thereabouts but not so bad I couldn't dodge and fight effectively, only time really messed me up was when I was razzing someone and saw red circle of doom and it lagged getting from Rez into dodge roll
Like I said I loved this event

Those precursors were dropping like flies, I felt it was a getting too unfair when some folks reported getting 2 of them from the chest., just from attending the 2 hour event.
