Guacamelee! is so full of personality and challenging gameplay that it's a shame it ever has to end.

So far this is my favourite game this year :)

I still don't see how this deserves to be comparable to the likes of Infinite. The dimension switching platforming is decently implemented, but not all that original. The combat also seems decent, but having the button prompts is silly and unnecessary and the level designs feels really bland. Lastly, the coop, as he acknowledged  is pointless. I can accept this game getting an 8.5, but this just doesn't feel like it deserves to cross that 9.0 threshold that puts it on the same playing field as some of the best games ever made.

@ViggyNash Simple answer it's because both are decent games. Sure, Guacamelee is a vastly different game, and sounds like it's not your cuppa-tea next to Bioshock 3.. But you surely cannot deny how well made the game is? Personally I haven't had this much fun with a game in many, many months. For that very reason Guacamelee scores big time :)

Why is a comparison even needed? These are different genres, different reviewers, different price ranges (as far as I can tell) and even if they weren't, I still don't see how any good can come of drawing a comparison.

Listen to what he has to say instead - a simplistic 1 to 10 scoring system will never tell you anywhere near as much as a proper review.

@Jamoid I'm not saying that this is a bad game overall, and I agree with much of his positive descriptions of the game. But in terms of the relative quality of the game compared to others, which is where a 1-10 scale is useful, I just don't feel like this game can match up with the heavyweights from what I know of the game. Leaving aside big budget titles, does this game compare to Journey? To Bastion? To Thomas Was Alone? Journey and Bastion both got 9.0s and I believe Thomas Was Alone deserved at least an 8.5. Personally, I don't think it matches up with Bastion and Journey, and it's similar in overall quality to Thomas Was Alone. It's no doubt a solid title, but relative to the top tier indie titles I just don't think it is at that 9.0 level.

@Jamoid It's a bit of a stretch, but I see your point.

Each reviewer will have their own personal likes and dislikes, and biases towards certain things. However, a proper review is supposed to be a purely objective analysis, so the reviewer shouldn't matter, but everyone's human. A particular game may have a vastly different impact on two different people.

Fair enough, I do get where you are coming from, I just don't think it applies on a huge gaming site with many different reviewers.

The guy who reviewed Journey might have given this a 7. The girl who reviewed Bastion might have given it a 4. We don't know. Point is, we don't know if this guy has even played those other games to compare them, it's just one guy's score.

The game deserve more than 8.5!!

Good Job Square Enix

@Drachen-Dorwolf I think it is difficult for some game sites to rate $110 games versus $60 games. There are a ton of crap $10 game.

What was that game that you would go back and forth between two dimensions? Is it from this same company?

Wow a Vita game Gamespot actually bothered to review. I suppose I should be grateful. Anyway I'll get this down the line. Got way too much to play on my Vita right now. I'll get it either when it has a good sale or when it's inevitably free on PS Plus.

Good to know that I am not the only person who feels the narration of this review is problematic. There's no passion and although he does not slurs, it feels that way when he blends one word into another.

Peter should enunciate more and don't be afraid to stress on important words. As it stands, this review is sleep-inducing because his narration sounds like something you will hear in a dream. Clear but unintelligible. You hear it but you just cannot understand it.

The way Peter reads the review script is really difficult to pay attention to.

The words that he's saying technically form a cohesive review, but it's so wooden that just the presence of a video is enough to make you completely miss almost everything he says.

Now this looks like a perfect game for the vita.

Would love to pickup, but I feel it will be a free promo game for PSN+ soon enough. I will hold out for that or for it to get a good discount with PSN+.
