I waited a long time to finish this game but I knew it would be great and it surely was.

For several reasons I won't go into now I never got to finish up this great game before this day. And it surely took some bother. Patching, graphics and sound tweaking, using CPU killer for some spots just to be able to get through... A lot of trouble. But I did it just to experience the game and I don't regret it.

Grim Fandango is very close to being a perfect adventure. Its world is brilliant really: the land of the dead with a humorous twist. The characters are great and they are voiced perfectly. The main character Manny Calavera is one of the most lovable adventure game characters every made and they don't even reveal so much about him in this game. I found the graphics very beautiful and suitable for the world, the music is just fantastic and the actual story of the game is engaging.

This game works wonderfully for a story seekers as well as those who just want a fun adventure for the giggles. It has both and very well done indeed. I also love how you can chat extra with people and interact with less important items just to give you some information about the world or just another joke. Many games nowadays have forgotten how these little extra things add to the experience.

Yet I did not give it a perfect 10. I almost did, but I found myself frustrated at so many occasions I just couldn't stretch it to perfection anymore. The controls are horrible. Moving with arrow keys you can choose character or camera related movement and they both suck. I found the camera related movement slightly better for myself but I still had to switch it at some spots because the character just didn't agree to turn. I think it's horrible when you have a keyboard controls and you still can bump into an invisible walls that actually make your character change direction. Added to moving between screens that are changing the camera angle it was sometimes truly painful to get Manny to move where you wanted. I would think using joystick or game pad might make the controls more bearable.

Mostly because of the controls I found myself stuck sometimes, and after checking the walkthru I found out that I actually already knew what to do and I had even tried it a few times but just because I couldn't hit the exact spot or something similar the action didn't go through. Apart from these few puzzles the difficulty was just right. Some brain action needed but moving along with the plot nicely.

Grim Fandango is an adventure classic and anyone who plays adventures really shouldn't miss this one.
