Driver was originally released for the PS one long before GTA was poplar as it is now. It spawned an excellent sequel Driver 2, which added on-foot sections. Now we are at DRIV3R, which has been delayed many times, which is hard to believe since it only feels half finished. The game starts promising through. Tanner lives in Miami, working as a cop. He is sent undercover to arrest the feared gangster Catalina, who is doing some illegal car business, and make lot´s of money at the same time. The story fails due to the many twists it take at one time, so you may lose your way 2 hours in the story. The game itself is where it all goes worng. It´s your standard free-romaing game. You start in Miami (later Nice and Istanbul), where you can do pretty much everything you want. The game does have a little joke in each the 3 citys. You must find and kill 10 Tommy Vencettis, which is to make fun of Vice City. As you may expect he dosen´t look like Tommy from Vice City, he is just a bad copy, with bathing wings, since he coulden´t swin, and you can. But let´s get back to the gameplay. Unlike the other games, the on foot sections fills more of the game. You can collect weapons and, shoot pepole. Now the most strange thing here is that there is no blood at all which feels totally wrong. The shooting is unfortunely broken, in fact the whole gameplay is broken. The game plays like a first-person game. You can run, jump, make lame rolls, and hardly jump. You can even flick into first-person view. Those sections are too hard, and boring, cause you have seen it all before. The driving sections are strange. There are some things like fences you can mow down, but you can´t mow light poles, and trees, and sometimes everything will make your car stop completely. The missions thenself are so hard it´s a crime. that´s the reason it takes 12-20 hours to complete, but it´s so hard that some pepole won´t bother. When you have completed a mission, you can look at it at the games film director, which is the only thing that works. You can make a mission seem like a million dollar action scene, which is cool. The graphics are very ugly filled with glitchs, and other nasty things. But the cut scenes are nice to look at. The city are good and pretty, but everything else ruins it. The sound is decent. Sound effects sound like crap, and the music is bad, luckliy you can use costum soundtrack to remove that. The soundtrack in the cut-scenes are nice to hear, and there are good voices. They got celebiterys to do the voices like Micheal Madsen, Michelle Rodruguiz, Iggy Pop, and Ving Rames. Overall the game is a total bore. The game is broken and feels unfinished. Maybe it need one more year a Refelctions head quaters. What could have been a great follow up to a great series is unfortunely dull, and dosen´t require any attention. it´s not good for either your time, or your money.
