A great addition to the beloved series. GTAV may just be the best one yet

User Rating: 9 | Grand Theft Auto V PS3

So I finally picked up Grand Theft Auto V as a Christmas gift. The series wasn’t really something I was wowing about since I had only played Vice City, but know after playing this latest installment I can certainly see what the entire buzz is about.

Story: 8.5/10

As far as the story goes, it really is very intriguing. It really helps add a certain level of depth to the game as you venture to get back into the business of crime. I don’t wanna give away any spoilers but let’s just say you’re going to like this one.

Score: 6.5/10

Since the majority of the music in this game is composed of actual songs, it’s hard not to like a few songs your enjoy listening to on the car radio (since that’s where about most of the music is). However, about half the stations consist of rap or R&B which if you’re not a fan of (myself included) it can get a bit annoying.

Characters/Character Development: 9/10

All the protagonists (especially Trevor) are very engaging and at times, a bit silly keeping you not only entertained, but wanting to find out more about them. This game would be hard to put down just from wanting to know more about the characters alone.

Graphics: 9.5/10

Beautiful graphics capture the city of Los Santos and the more rural areas leaving you stunned by the way the area you play through looks.

Gameplay: 10/10

Gameplay here is what stands out and makes this game truly magnificent. A huge open world that in no way feels limited by boundaries and traversing this world by car, boat or plane will only make you appreciate it further. Weapons are also very plentiful so you can choose to fight your own way. There are also many side quests to let you keep playing even after the game has been beaten, and with online gameplay allowing you to play with your friends, this will be a game you won’t be putting down for a while.

Difficulty: 5.5/10 (0 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest)

This game has a solid difficulty curve which is right where it wants to be. You may have to try a few things a second time, but it is never enough to want you to stop playing (and if a mission is too difficult there is always the option of skipping it after 3 failed attempts).

Controls: 6/10

Although controls do function well there were two issues I had. One is that whenever you try to brake, if you’re holding the joystick in any direction, your character will flip out of the car, and although it doesn’t get old watching them flip across the street, it is obnoxious when you are trying to go somewhere or if you are chasing someone. The second is that several of the planes were a bit difficult to control and trying to land them was even harder.

Fun: 10/10

This game lets you do what you want, when you want making it fun to just take a few minutes to stop and kill some hookers or blow up a few cars in a crowded intersection. Also there’s very subtle other games you can play, such as challenging Michael’s wife to a game of tennis or performing yoga by holding buttons and the joysticks. Whether you’re calm and collected or violent and bloodthirsty, this game will have you playing for hours on end.
