The GTA The Trilogy The Definitive Edition is worth the trouble for Nintendo Switch despite its flaws.

User Rating: 8 | Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition NS

The good: the graphics and music has gotten a great overhaul for the hybrid console, the missions in the trilogy is diverse, everything you remember is still intact, it's a long time coming since Nintendo DS GTA Chinatown, out of all the versions, the Switch has the least amount of bugs and glitches.

The bad: the nostalgia for people who own the PS2 and Xbox owners, lots of music has been cut from all GTA trilogy, GTA Liberty and Vice Stories would've been a worthy add on additions. Including Chinatown, the physics seriously needs a sharp tuning.

Things seriously has change as the consoles has changed with the times. Same with Nintendo consoles as they have strived for third party support that it took a lot a few handheld consoles until the Switch arrives. Same with the GTA legacy. It would've been hard anyway with a few exceptions like Bully for the Wii and LA Noire. The GTA trilogy has enough serious meat to get you playing non stop with the various missions that's not all about killing people.

Well that's one core of the game. There's driving vehicles and at times, using weapons or fist to knock your enemies down. Also, you get chased and arrested by police if your stars are high enough, bringing the army to knock you down and waste money on hospital bills. Including weapons as compensation. It could easily be a long list but the diverse missions while it's not too difficult or not too much a cake walk is perfectly tuned. Of course, the Nintendo Switch has joy-con motion controls and handheld touchscreen to give a comfortable feel which suppose to be in line with GTA 5. And if you with GTA 5 will be on the Switch, it's highly unlikely anyway.

The graphic overhaul on Nintendo is great in it's high quality in line with Xbox360 and PS3 with its graphics pushed up to its suitable level, despite a few frame rate issues, but not enough to take this game down since it did come from the PS2 and Xbox era. The music, voice and sound on the other hand is all intact. As long as you don't expose the kids to swearing or cursing, it's worth enjoying the GTA Trilogy within its respective eras. However, due to licensing issues, a lot of songs has to be cut out. Rest in peace Michael Jackson.

Perhaps the best part is its longevity or replay value. All GTA Trilogy games has a lengthy story, tons of things to do and even enjoy customizing your character. But those who play this game before will have nostalgia all over as they believe that the missions will be easy to breeze through. On the Nintendo side, besides its checkered past with a few games that is like a spiritual success to GTA like LA Noire and Bully on the Wii, there's no other games like this, save for the games in the history books like Driver Parallel Lines, True Crimes Streets of LA and the closest on the Wii U, Watch Dog.

You can't dispute how good the GTA Trilogy is. Though it would've been nice later in the future to extend the longevity. Like the GTA Chinatown on the Nintendo DS that spawn to a few handhelds like PSP and the technology of today. Also GTA Liberty and Vice Stories, both available of PS2 and PSP would be worthy additions if they can update it to its collection. Also, unlike the more powerful consoles, you won't find to many bugs and glitches like exploding cars. But I hope in the future, they make the physics from cars to people more comfortable than just seeing flying cars and people hit into the sky. With the recent patches, it will help iron out the issues that plague the trilogy in the future. Perhaps, tighten the controls and add new features would be helpful.

If Rockstar still continues to support Nintendo Switch, despite its limitations, it will become one of the few games that would be essential for your collections. Maybe one day there would be a GTA anniversary collection that honors the series in a memorable way. So if there is a game to recommend, I give this game my tick of approval and you won't be disappointed despite its nostalgia. Play to your hearts content.

Special note: With the patches recently added, the review score and info will change accordingly.
