Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on Xbox is, for the most part, better than the original Ps2 release.

User Rating: 9 | Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas XBOX

The Good:

For the most part, the game is graphically better than the original Ps2 version. Custom Soundtracks is still available in this San Andreas Xbox port. Same strong game play.

The Bad:

Character models are still identical to the original Ps2 game. Parts of the environments in the game look so unbelievably saggy, especially for Xbox standards. Custom Soundtracks are kinda hard to use, i recommend you use "Sequential'' mode from the audio setting on the main menu. In-game radio Soundtrack could've been a bit better.

Intro:

By now you know how this works, the new "Grand Theft Auto'' game comes out in October, but only for the PlayStation 2. Xbox owners have to wait half a year for their own version of the game and while the Xbox version has aspects that are mostly better than original 2004 release, some visual weirdness prevents this from being better than the original port of the game.

Game play:

Same strong game play, which is a fantastic thing. There's more variety to do this time around than in Vice City.

Graphics:

Ideally, you expect the Xbox version to look at least a bit better than the original Ps2 game and that's exactly what you got, but comparing it to III and Vice City on Xbox, it's not the best the Xbox has to offer. The saggy environments aren't 100% noticeable on Ps2, but it's definitely noticeable in the Xbox game and it could've been eliminated. But given the large Sandbox world on the Xbox game, there's not much room left for graphical improvement.

Controls:

Just like III and Vice City before it, the controls have been altered to fit the Xbox controller. Left top joystick moving. A for running. X for jumping and jumping over obstacles. Y for getting into vehicles. R for aiming. L and B for shooting.

Music and Sound:

Music is great like in the Ps2 game, but in-car radio soundtrack could've been a bit better. Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound takes advantage of the Xbox sound hardware, like III and Vice City before it.

Lasting Appeal:

Graphically better for the most part. But comparing it to III and Vice City before it, it's not the best the Xbox has to offer in terms of a graphical standpoint. With that said though, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is still an amazing game. 9.5 out of 10.
