The Grand Theft Auto series has always had a buzz of controversy surrounding it. With Grand Theft Auto III, DMA Designs has taken the series to a whole new level by bringing it into a fully 3D world, with all of the hard-boiled violence that you've come to expect from these games. GameSpot's Jeff Gerstmann details just about everything you need to know about this over-the-top game.
unironic use of the word "iller" is almost as bad as that hair. Still love you Jeff
It was 10 years from number III to number V
It's so weird that this game is 10 years old...I was 11 when this came out...Great times with this game though :D
GTA V!!!
Happy 10th birthday, GTA III.
seemed like he didn't even have a script just went through the top of his head. good job
This game have paved ways for greater GTA games in the future. This game should be in people homes cuz of the storyline of it.Plus funny ending of this video LOL
favourite activity... use the cheats for Rioting Citizens and Citizens Armed (with guns) to make that radio commercial for Liberty City Survivor a reality :-D
And we gon' give this all that we got....classic!!!
This game blew me away the first time I played it. A classic.
I remember first playing this back in '01 & thinkin to me sen "there's no way anything will ever top this" the graphics, the cinematics, the sounds of the city... all while listenin to RISE FM. ace, ace days. Exept when you crash into an invisible wall and get stuck.GTA V, MAY2012 --tennerbet.
getting this one and vice city and san andreas in a few days! Can't wait;)
most muture game for a long time. wow how we were wrong
@ pH347m3 - hey, cut him some slack, we all made mistakes in the early 2000's...
I can't take Jeff seriously with that hair.
First GTA game i ever got. I still play it to this day.
The only problem with this game is your character. He doesn't say anything, so there is no character development like in San Andreas and the other later games. This is still an excellent game though.
"you can go on a one person crime spree with no real point to it"
man... back then this ffx, max payne, and metal gear solid was the decade of gaming for me. Playing this game, while it rained, with a blanket over me was so fun and carefree. Sigh.... now with school and work.
This game would have been good or great if the controls were at least remotely responsive and smooth.

@Homefree122 I totally agre wih you. The old Gamespot reviews were much more fun and relaxed. You got to actually feel how the reviewer felt about the game, and his enthusiasm for it. All the more recent video reviews seem so rehearsed and dull. These were the classics.
for those who say the game is 'good' Im sure you're too young to have played it in 2001 but you gotta understand when this game came out there was nothing like it. to this day, its wit and humor along with story and gameplay is some of the best ever and was truly groundbreaking at the time. this game is still fantastic and its a bummer not every gamer had the opportunity to appreciate this title during its inception. the memories I have of switching between this and MGS2 late at night give me a warm comfy feeling. ahhh to be young again. "they don't make em like the used to."
I have it,its okay
I wish I had this game.
this game is such as classic
i love how relaxed and how into the reviews these guys used to be back in the day. now it doesnt seem as significant as it used to.
Rockstar games never fails GTA Manhunt Max payne LA Noire comin out soon and probally a GTA 5 eventually i say there the best at makin games only open world game compteing with GTA andf RED Dead is Mafia 1 and 2
For Jeff to end up with that hair, must meen he lost a bet or something
jeff's hair is ill
Lol at Jeff's hair back in 2001.
I NEED THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
whats wrong with his hair
i hate it when people say "this game is not for kids"
iller
hahahaha! look at Jeff's Hair!!!
Not for kids...psh...who cares, there's more kids playing GTA than adults.
Hey guys, nobody cares if you played the game when you were like 8 or anything like that!
haha nice ending
lol..love this game! its just too fun to hesitate.. :)
i played this when i was 8
I remember one thanksgiving when my family and cousins came over. We were so amazing by the game. Just a great immersible experience and a classic no doubt.
lol, "definately not for kids" i played it when I was like, 7.
Ill. :P
Cool game but lacks the features of san andreas or vice city. By now it's way outdated.
the first gta i played when i was a kid........ man that was so long ago.
