I personally find the touchscreen controls to be very well translated from the consoles and PC to the mobile device. Most fun you can have on a mobile device. 9/10

I agree with the complaints in this review, but they're less of a problem then the review makes them out to be. I never played GTA III on a console, but am enjoying it so far on my iPhone 4s. Make no mistake, the controls are difficult- but very workable, and I'm a good 25 or so missions in. The driving controls are much better than the on foot controls (especially during combat and shootouts), but the flexibility of most of the missions means you can stay in a car for most (or all) of the more difficult sections. R* really needs to implement support for cheats. Having every gun or unlimited health for a mission or two would erase most of my complaints with the game. I'd give it a 8.5 out of 10. Recommend for GTA fans, but is far from an ideal entry into the series (on touch screen devices, at least).

What a surprise. Touch controls make things difficult.

Another touch screen port... another fail! Touch screen controls just do not work with games meant for another console. I remember downloading Sonic 1 and 2 for my iPhone and the controls were just embarrassing

Finally. Once I upgrade to an Android, GTA3 is on my get list.

Could have added an option to USB-connect a PS2 controller to the tablet to solved most problems.

No surprise here. GTA III is another example of how a touch screen can't replace a controller in some games.

I'm tempted to get this simply because I don't own the original anymore... but the touch screen controls scare me. Until all gaming capable phones and tablets have real buttons and sticks, there will always be a place for true portable gaming platforms.

The touch screen controls are tedious compared to the other versions, but you can't play them in an airplane

Mark, if someone told you ten years ago u could play gta3 on a phone.... would you feel upset? controls are not 10/10 neither is the gameplay but come on!! On a handheld that gets 9/10 for angry birds.... this must be 9/10 dude!!

if you don't like the controls use an android tablet and use a usb or bluetooth controller and problem solved. more to carry but more fun also.

I personally would have proffered a Halo style anniversary rather than this since I'm a huge fan of GTA and have never played this.Due to the poor control issues I cant bring myself to buy it now

@sexyweapons The controls aren't that bad. Costs 5 bucks. Buy it now. Seriously, I think the controls are very good.

They should re-release GTA3 on Xbox 360 and PS3, that would make it a proper anniversary edition. Add Achievements/trophies and I'd buy it.

Holy crap dude, talk about a frickin whiner. I mean come on, you know when you got the game that it was touch screen controls. To be honest, I think the controls work JUST FINE. Any of these control "issues" are typically goofy things the original version of the game had anyway. I hope Rockstar does an update to put a sensitivity slider for how much you want to turn the car (if you wanna use the turning controls instead of the standard on screen turning buttons. Either way, this dude REALLY complains a lot about the controls, but I've played this game for several hours now and I've had no problems.

It will be cool if we could play this on PSVITA but without the dumb touch screen controls.

running flawless on arc s, controls aren't that bad, remember they were bad enough on the ps2 specially the aiming. so no wonder they don't work that well on a touch screen, they were kinda broken to begin with. still, runs and plays better than I imagined the 1st time I heard of it.

And this ladies and gentlemen, is why smartphone gaming will never replace proper handheld consoles. There are always going to be control issues without buttons. I hope Rockstar come up with a GTA 3, VC, SA HD collection for consoles soon. Or even a collection of those games for Vita. Those games on a proper handheld console would be pretty sweet.

I can see a lot of GTA fans looking past the control problems since it's GTAIII on a phone or tablet. But I can see where PS2 controls just don't translate to a touchscreen. Maybe there is still a market for the Vita. :-) lol
