Another cookie cutter KRPG, that fails to deliver on anything really unless of course, you're willing to pay for it.

Seems these days that Free-to-play MMos are vastly becoming the scourge of the industry by completely flooding the market with cute anime style gameplay that sucks in so many weak willed players, Grand Fantasia is no different - everything about it screams World of Warcraft mixed with Anime, while that concept sounds great on paper, in practice is doesn't work and I'll tell you why.

First off, like with all these free to play games, they are funded by item mall transactions and it seems these days, the developers are getting more brash and open in screwing over the people playing by seriously limiting your in-game options, unless you spend a small fortune on items which can, quickly amount to more than a regular monthly subscription fee if your not careful.

Grand Fantasia does this mainly in the crafting and item upgrading area (which is usually the case is it not?) it starts off more or less innocently by eliminating the mat grinding process by having your sprites farm for you whilst you continue on your usual quests, occasionally these'll will fail, have some good/bad events and what not until you have enough to craft your basic gear, sounds fine huh? Let's say you want to upgrade that equipment? Unless you have clovers which are buyables chances are, even with high end scrolls...the upgrade will fail and seriously damage your items. As for the cool stuff, this type of crafting is again, extremely frustrating as it involves the purchase of clays, which are actually extremely expensive, the basic clays are 32g which for new players works out to a small fortune, and the best clay...buyables, and guess what, its still not a guareenteed chance to even successfully create something with them, quite often it'll be a waste of money and time.

As for questing, it breaks down into the typical solo/party and raid type content, solo content is pretty much a major grind because of the high money requirements for most activities, you'll be repeating quests over and over and over again, as for party quests..those themselves are a mess because some of those quests can easily be solo'd, whilst others will require a full party, the problem is, its near on impossible to tell so new players again, get screwed over in this department. As for raids, those are strictly for high end guilds who most likely spend small fortunes on the game + dual/multi box.

The economy is also pretty bad, this is the game where it has actually become almost acceptable to scam, yeah I said it! SCAM! People to get gold which most likely are to pay for clays in order to craft anything remotely awesome in game. Grand Fantasia does have some promise but right now, since its an infant its not doing so well with other F2P games crushing it under foot, personally I think GF might have done better if it had a proper monthly sub free and with that, have far better odds for the 'average players' to create decent and nice looking items, couple that with more accessibility for non-guilded players, because lets face it, in GF once your past 30 and not in a decent guild, quit the game because you're going to find there isn't much for you to do, again...unless you willing to pay for it.

Finally, this game does show some promise but right now, any anime fans and the typical MMo crowd looking for a F2P MMo, I would look at the competition first before giving GF a shot, this needs some time to get fixed up.
