User Rating: 7.2 | Gran Turismo PS
For a long time, the Nintendo 64 was burrying the Playstation with the amazing Mario kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing titles. But the PS did not have nothing to fight back until now. Gran Turismo is definataly the racer Playstation owners have been waiting for.

But, unlike the N64's easy-to-get-into kart racers, Gran turismo is actually directed to the experience hard-core gamers. This game has a lot of deph to it and hardcore gaming and racing fans will love it. With tons of vehicles to choose from, realistic driving physics to drive thru, and a overall solid presentation, Gran Turismo makes up for the Playstation's lack of good racers in it's library.

This game makes the best use of the Playstation's CD-ROM storage format more than any other title in the system. In the game, there are a ton of unlockable cars from the real life. If you have a car, nothing feels like driving the car you have with realistic physics in a game. Not only that, the loading times are done very well. It only takes about 10 seconds to load a race. It doesn't stack up to the N64's superior load times, but it's an achievment for the Playstation disability to load data quickly from the disc.

This also takes the Playstation hardware to the fullest. For you graphic whores who unfortunaly have a Playstation can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Gran Turismo have graphics that can almost be as good as the N64.
The Playstation's primitive 3D rendering is evident thru the courses, but it makes up for it with fantastic 3D renderings of cars. You never seen cars loom this good, not even on the N64. Not to mention an impressive playback feature, where you can replay the racers has it was been seen thru live TV!

But no matter how great this game is, it can't keep on going with it's own share of problems. The gameplay is great and deep, but it won't keep you in it for long. The load times and preparations between courses slow down severly the pace of the game. The multiplayer addition is nice, but it's nowhere as good as Mario Kart's extremely fun multiplayer races and battles. The sound is very poorly done and placed. One of the soundtraks has the sound of a Tie-fighter at the biggining. You are not playing Star Wars, you are playing Gran Turismo, are you? So the sound is something this game could be better without.

Anyway, with it's problems, it's still a very cool racing game. And if you have a Playstation, you might as well give it a try. It's the best racing game on the console.
