Polyphony Digital delivers a fresh, realistic driving game most anyone will enjoy.

User Rating: 9.1 | Gran Turismo 2 (Greatest Hits) PS
Gazing at the surface ot Gran Turismo 2, it's easy to see how this game would hardly be different from it's predecessor and would be a carbon copy with more up-to-date cars. This is mainly due to the fact that the graphics look similar. This game is better than any other racing game I played at this time and has shown that this series will be the best of any other racing series out there. GT2 backs up it's gameplay with 100s of challenges and more depth than any other racing game out there. Gran Turismo offers many different versions of play whether it be first player (Simulation mode) or second player (Arcade Mode). Regular street racing or getting your cars a little dirty in Rally races. The arcade mode let's you play against another player (and their own car garage should you put their memory card in the PS) in many different races and many different tracks. It's true gem though is it's simulation mode. The main menu let's you do many things. For one, there are many different cities you can go to to buy cars. There's West City (French and Italian cars), North City (German and British cars), East City (Japanese cars), and South City(American Cars). You can go to these cities and buy any cars that may be available. You can also get a car wash for your cars and there's even a wheel shop. Beautiful rims, 500$. Here on this main menu you can also find your garage where you go to pick up your cars you wish to choose and then race them in the various races and challenges. Keep up all the racing to win money and buy better cars and you just might be able to become the world champion. From the start of every race GT2 is a winner in graphics. The intro movie, is just plain awesome. As with GT1, the post-race replays are stunning and incredible. The actual improvements in graphics over GT1 are minimal at best though. The game looks essentially the same. The only real changes graphically are the car's looks. They now glimmer and shine and the actual designs and curves of the cars are much more apparent and less polygonal. Immediately after the race comes the beautiful music. Each of the 500 cars sound-effects were actually recorded with that same model of car with a microphone so the sound effects couldn't be more perfect. Even each time you upgrade your engine the sound will change when you rev the engine. The details that went into the sound effects of this game is spectacular. Even the soundtrack is sweet. Unreal sound effects and a stellar soundtrack make this at the top of the chart for musical performance. You don't even need to replay this game. Playing through all the challenges and races alone will get you around 60 -70 hours of gameplay. Tons of cars to earn, unlock and tracks to beat. This game is just plain exquisite. Deep, involving, and filled with literally hundreds of cars. This is the racing game for you.
