Game developers Monolith, who have a history of making great shooters, have teamed up with Warner Brothers to make a zany team based, action shooter that takes inspiration from two of the biggest names out there. It takes the heavy/light character models and their respective bonuses to health points and mobility from Team Fortress 2 and the addictive levelling and gear unlock system from Call of Duty, I would say it emulates the superior Black Ops system where you gain tokens to unlock gear you want.

The loadout system is similar to other shooters, the guns range from assault rifles, sub machine guns and heavy machine guns to launchers, sniper rifles and freeze guns, each has customisable accessories and camouflage paints. There are perks of which you get two slots, a point streak/death streak bonus, and when you reach level 30 you unlock the ability to get bonus xp provided you full-fill certain criteria.

A great feature is the ability to equip gadgets that makes getting around the maps a piece of cake (no lie). They keep the combat fast paced and can often eradicate the problem of pesky campers which in a world of high definition graphics and increasingly complicated level design is a breath of fresh air. Some of these include the grappling hook that allow you to zip around the map quick smart for great flanking (my personal favourite), the glider which can be combined with an often devastating air to ground melee dive bomb, roller skates that utilise ramps to make big leaps and make targets, especially the smaller character models, quite difficult to hit, and an invisibility serum for sneaky rear guard action. Other items of note are the healing gun and targeting goggles which shows enemy positions through walls to the rest of your team and gain you points each time they are dispatched of.

The next thing to mention is character costume customisation which adds to the addictive loadout unlocks. There are five different body shapes from small and speedy to big and lumbering, each has 3 faces to choose from and a number of different voices. Additionally there are a plethora of costume items including slots for head, torso, cape, legs, feet, and accessories etc and separate unlocks for Joker and Batman teams making the unlocks gruelling at times but adds to the satisfaction of having your guy run around in his tighty whities.

There are cons- the main gripe being the matchmaking system which we'd all like to kibosh into the annals of history. I'm generally a quite patient person and find I can amuse myself in the customisation menus while waiting for the game to start, however at the time of writing there's no option to mute players in the lobby which means that it can become quite tiresome if you happen to stumble upon a game where some legend (I use the term loosely) is holding their mic up to their tinny laptop speakers and blasting out a distorted unrecognisable noise. This is also a problem in game as you have to use the dreadful Windows Live interface to mute each player and sometimes it's not clear who's making your ear drums bleed.

In conclusion this is a very competent game with a great mix of all things that are leading the way in modern team based shooters with a splash good humour and reasonably priced at £12 ($15 US). Under rated in my opinion – 85%

Thanks for reading- I'm not wearing hockey pads! (sorry, had to be said)
