The Game boy Advance has always been known for its fantastic library of games! Back when the Game boy Advance was just in a first year run a rather interesting rpg came out that caught my eye. It was called Golden Sun! At first I wasn't really interested as I was too busy playing Super Mario Advance! But when the game was shown to me by a complete stranger I was brainwashed by the Golden Sun's SHINE! I had to get it and when I did finally get Golden Sun I played the HELL out of it! Since then Golden Sun has always been one of my most favorite and most cherished games ever! Time to finally shine some light on this review!
Storyline: Golden Sun introduces you into the land of Weyard! As soon as you start your new game you control Isaac when he was just a child! A terrible storm has befallen the town of Vale and it's up to Isaac to get to the plaza. Along the way he encounters Felix who seems to have fallen into the river. Isaac's dad along with Jenna's family and Garret's try desperately to save him. Their efforts fail when a boulder crashes towards them! Isaac's father along with Felix and a couple of others disappears after the destruction. Then it gets worst, two evil mages who you overheard in conversation named Saturos and Menardi make you forget what you ever heard! That's just a sample of what happens but let's get to the gameplay before I get carried away!
Gameplay: Golden Sun is an rpg that has random monster encounters and turn based battles! You are immediately introduced to Weyard after Mt. Aleph erupts and after Kraden shuts up about the elemental stars. You will meet your very first Djinn "Flint" who will brief you about how to summon and use his power. You will be treading across Weyard visiting villages, towns, caves, forests, and many other areas in your quest to stop Saturos and Menardi. You will encounter your party members very quickly in the games beginning as well. (Ivan & Mia) They are both adepts of course who can use psyenergy as well as Djinn and other abilities.
Graphics: The best I've seen for the GBA! Golden Sun is just such a beautiful game and the over world is just so big you will be immersed right at the start! Everything is very well animated and the Djinn are fun to fight! Character sprites are full of personality and never seem to shut up either!
Value: Golden Sun just like its sequel has tremendous replay value. I can't tell you how many times I've beaten this game! This is a game thats defiantly worth finding used!
Overall: This was just the beginning before the Golden Sun had risen! Now it has risen today and Golden Sun Dark Dawn is going to make it DARK! Golden Sun is beginning its rise into the new era after 7 years of being forgotten! I can't wait to find out what else is in store for this epic series! "Shine on Golden Sun shine on."
