I used to play Golden Axe on the Amiga system with my best school chum. We were so excited about the game, we refused to go to sleep and would go back to playing Golden Axe first thing in the morning. This game is classic beat-em up game. I should rather say slash-em up because the the setting is medieval fantasy. To me, this was the crux about the game, as I had only been aquainted with various Double Dragon and the like games, set in "reality" (more or less).

You could choose between a dwarf, a warrior and an amazon, who pretty much played the same, but with differen animations, graphics and spell effects. The levels were neat and ridden with all sorts of evil minions. From fat ogres to dragon riding villains. You could ride the dragons as well. There was not much of a story but a atmospheric card between the levels, serving as interlude and showing your progress through the world (think Indiana Jones movies).

This game is a classic and I would still highly recomended for old school gamers who wont to go back and have some solid 2D sidescrolling slash em up fun !
