Godzilla Unleashed could have been good, if it were worked on a bit more.

User Rating: 7 | Godzilla: Unleashed WII
Godzilla has always been my all time ultimate monster. But Godzilla Unleashed, the next installment in the fighting series, which has created Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, as well as Godzilla: Save the Earth, falls a bit short.

The story is that these strange crystals have been falling from the sky, corrupting the world with radiation and such. The humans don't like this one bit, but they have other things to worry about. They have to worry about the monsters attacking the world. Various monsters have been rampaging around the world, either trying to destroy, or harness these crystals.

The game has you choosing monsters from all kinds of different Godzilla movies, including the 1954 version of Godzilla, as well as Godzilla 90's. Godzilla 2000, from the new millennium saga, is also playable. All of Godzilla's allies and enemies are also playable, including Mothra, Destroyah, King Ghidorah, Mecha Godzilla, Biollante, and Gigan to name a few. Each have their own stats, move sets and powers, as well as their own faction.

Which brings us to the newest feature for this fighting game: The factions. There are 4 factions in the game. They are, the Earth Defenders, Aliens, Global Defense Force, and the Mutants, each having different monsters allied to them. Depending what monster you pick, will decide which faction likes you at the very start.

Gameplay involves you running about, causing as much damage as possible, destroying key things, or beating the crap out of other monsters. However, the attacks are very awkward looking compared to the other two installments. The 1 2 punch has a monster casually swinging his arms at another monster, doing damage to him, despite it looking like nothing but a gentle swat. The attack animations have been redone, and some look alot weirder than before. Although they try to convince you that you can free roam in the cities, the time limit above you proves otherwise. The camera is also no fun, especially if there are multiple monsters. Fighting more than two monsters now has the camera mostly focusing on the two, making the others appear off-screen. This makes you prone to get sneak attacked, to which the camera decides to get the other monster in the shot only after your attacked.

The other problem is the buildings. The camera is alot lower and closer to the monsters than the first two games, which causes alot of tall towers to get in your way. Objectives also repeat themselves, making you attack the same key target, or simply just kill another monster, destroying any form of story they were trying to add. The most fun however, is learning to unlock every monster, you must replay the game multiple times, not only with another monster, but with a certain rating from another faction as well. This makes it very irritating when you have to go through the same things over again, just to unlock a new monster.

The game suffers alot, and may have been done better if it was worked on a bit more. It does have some value to it, especially if you love Godzilla. I say rent the game unless your totally in love with the big G-man.
