Worth Owning. Despite some flaws this is a pretty freaking fun game. I'd LOVE to work on the sequel lol.

It would be a very hard decision to choose between Godzilla Unleashed and a game called War of the Monsters, they both offer big huge monster battles inside city environments letting you crush buildings. I think War of the Monsters has better graphics and more fluid controls but Godzilla has great sound and awesome replay value. You should definately try owning them both.

Lets go over the gameplay though. You get a....weak/strong attak button, a special attack button, a defend button, a jump button, an unlock-on button, a grab button, and a beam attack button. Special attacks are monster specific like godzilla uses his tale or mothra spits string, or Destroyah shoots out a short range laser.

Beam attacks are pretty cool. You hold the button down to charge them up which makes them more powerful and then let go to shoot them. Every monster has one and you can also have Beam Attack Battles like in DBZ!!! If two monsters shoot beams at each other at the same time you can fight to dominate the other guys beam and land a hit.

Grabs are cool and you get two different ones as far as i can tell. Strong attack and special attack are the only two buttons that seem to do anything once you grab a guy. I wish you could have used a beam attack from a grab that would have been wicked to hold a guy above your head and then build up energy and fire it into them at point blank. If the other guy mashes buttons though he can wiggle out of your grip.

As for basic attacks you can build 3 hit combo's out of your three basic attack buttons, there might be bigger combo's but I cant figure them out. I didnt get a stupid manual and the game doesnt have a stupid controller config screen, lazy programmers!!.

All the monsters in the game are split up into factions, earth monsters, GDF(global defense force, mechanic monsters controlled by people), Mutant monsters, Aliens, and I think thats it. While you are fighting monsters and crushing cities flat hehe these different factions get bonus's and negatives to them. If I had the stupid manual I would know what the heck they mean or what you can do with them. I just try to make whatever faction im rolling with get to 100%.

Story mode is pretty cool, you either have only one city to choose from or get to pick from multiple cities. There are different types of battles throughout story mode like 1v2 or 2v2 or you can destroy all these crystal thingies to win. The bad part is they never tell you what you have to do when you start a fight but if you pause the game it has an objective screen. Sometimes when you enter a city there is some comic book style cutscenes with voice overs that tell the story of whats happening from the humans perspective, the GDF perspective. The basic gist of the story is that something or someone causes this meteor shower to just appear near earth and pummel it with asteroids. The crash sites start growing these crystals which give off massive amounts of radiation. Monsters get attracted to these crystals so they can absorb the radiation and get even stronger. It makes the monsters go nuts though. The earth defender faction and the GDF monsters realise that these crystals are a threat though so they try to take down the crystals or the monsters who want them.

The crystals show up all over the globe in all these major cities and you get to kick butt all over the globe. During each battle in story mode or in brawl mode you get points for smashing buildings, taking out the little turd military vehichles, and defeating monsters. At the end you get half of whatever you built up as points/cash.

You get to use these points cash to unlock factions and to buy all kinds of crap like stages, artwork, monsters and some other stuff!! This is where the massive replay value comes into play. Usually if I do extremely well I only earn 1000points/cash, and I know atleast one of the monsters takes 100,000 points.

My biggest problem with this game is the fact that you auto-lock on to any monster around you and you have to press and hold the L2 button down if you want to run around and go wherever you want to. Sometimes you want to smash buildings or go grab some power up crystals. It should have been the opposite way. You should not lock on to anything by default and only lock on to a monster by holding down the L2 button. But its a pretty minor issue.

The jump button is also kind of broken. Sometimes you can jump in the direction you are running and other times your monster will just stop and jump straight up. Jumping lets you cover some ground faster than just running.

One more thing I miss from War of the Monsters...in that game you could press one of the buttons and perform a taunt with your monster. I dont think Godzilla lets you do that which really sucks because I really wanted to hear godzilla do his roar.

But anyways the game is freaking awesome and if you want some mindless fun this would be a GREAT game to own.

Oh I said i would love to work on the sequel. I really loved the story in this game but it is so short! When i went through with godzilla it only had 17 battles. If I got to work on a sequel I would have ALOT more story battles. Or I would try to come up with some way where you could keep playing in story mode even after the main story ends and you would have access to every city and you would pick a city and face a random amount and random selection of monsters and depending on who was picked there would be a little cutscene that maybe talks about the history the monsters have.

It would probably kill this game graphically but it would be cool if there were tons of little choppers and tanks running around the maps trying to kill the monsters. Right now there is a small amount and they hurt but you barely even notice them. It would be cool if there were so many you had to wade through them like water lol.

I can understand if you your not that interested in godzilla and stuff, i know im not but you would be really messing up if you never gave this game a chance because it is really fun. I bet there are tons of people who wont even look at it. I encrouage everyone to tell their friends about it and get this game some exposure, it definately deserves it.
