Meet Megalon, 44,000 tons of monster and opponent of the unregulated testing of nuclear weapons.

When Godzilla: Save the Earth stomps into stores next month, 12 of the world's major cities will become battlegrounds for monsters whose weights are measured in thousands of tons. In our previous monster profiles, we've been introduced to a number of Godzilla's contemporaries, including Mothra, Moguera, Jet Jaguar, and Baragon--this week it's Megalon's turn.

The protector of the undersea kingdom of Seatopia, Megalon tips the scales at an impressive 44,000 tons (exactly half the weight of SpaceGodzilla) and stands 180 feet tall. Megalon's most distinctive features are the giant drills at the end of his arms, which he can use to burrow underground to evade projectile attacks or grab enemies from underneath. Megalon's drills can also be used to stun opponents, making them vulnerable to his napalm burst or his magnetic-vortex rage attack. Megalon is resistant to electrical, explosive, and heat attacks, but he's vulnerable to blunt and concussive attacks.

Megalon's first appearance was in the 1973 movie Godzilla vs. Megalon, in which he was sent to the surface to punish humankind for the unregulated testing of nuclear weapons, which had devastated Seatopia. The movie saw Megalon battling with both Godzilla and Jet Jaguar, and it was one of only two flicks that featured the popular Gigan--who will also be a playable character in Godzilla: Save the Earth.

We'll bring you more information on Godzilla: Save the Earth as soon as it becomes available.
