The perfect marriage of nonstop action, challenging combat, clever puzzles and ancient Greek mythology.
Button mashing can used to slice through creatures of mythology such as harpies, cyclopes, sitars and warrior like skeletons armed with swords, axes and arrows. Mashing however can take a backseat to a fun, easy combo system, which allows weapons upgrades & the use of magic, plus help from Gods such as Zeus, Athena, Poseidon and Hades never hurts. Kratos makes more progress on his pilgrimage to find puzzles that requires intellectual planning to move on to worthy boss fights against Greek's finest baddies including Hydra, Cerberus and Medusa.
Rendered cut scenes come in great but at times can be a little fuzzy. During the actual game one can easily see a foe fall in pain as the blade strikes right before decapitation into many bloody pieces. The sounds fill the room as the characters come across very believable due to professional voice acting. Replay value isn't very filling. One may pick it up to relive the great story sometime later but for those who rent or borrow won't purchase once they know the tale.
God of War comes off as a great start to a greater franchise and a strong reason of what video games are made to accomplish in the first place: entertainment. The story and Greek background set this apart from many other titles, allowing freedom in presentation, effect, content and narrative.
