One of the best actioners on the PS2.

User Rating: 9 | God of War (Greatest Hits) PS2
God of War takes place during ancient Greek times. You play as Kratos, a Spartan warrior who's past has been haunting him for ten years. He wants to rid himself of these nightmares, so he makes a deal with Athena, the goddess of wisdom. She tells him that her brother, Ares, the god of war, is attacking Athens. Athena tells Kratos that if he kills Ares before he destroys Athens, the gods will forgive his sins and rid him of his nightmares. But Kratos can't kill a god, since he's mortal, so a part of the way into the game, Kratos is pointed to a temple in the desert which contains Pandora's box, a weapon so powerful, a mere mortal can kill a god using it. So Kratos sets out to find it. Kratos is an anti-hero, who's really badass, but when his story unfolds throughout the game, you can't help but feel sorry for him. In the game, Kratos possesses these two swords called the blades of chaos. He sort of flings these things at his enemies, as they are attached by chains to his arms. You can do alot of different combos with the blades, and it's not really button mashing to kill these enemies, unless you're trying to get out of a jam. You also receive special attacks from the gods, like Zeus, king of the gods, gives you the ability to throw lightning bolts. When you've done enough damage to an enemy, a circle button icon will appear above its head. When you grab the stunned enemy, you'll have to press given buttons in sequence to pull off a brutal finishing move that will kill that particular enemy. This is an M rated game, so there's not only a lot of blood and gore, but there are also topless women. That's right, your eyes do not deceive you. The graphics are some of the best i've seen on the PS2. I really like the water effects. Sometimes, if you run through a puddle of water, it will do a ripple effect. In closing, this is one of the best action games on the PS2, and I highly recommend it.
