God of War III is a brutal conclusion to Kratos' saga.

I've played God of War for a long time. The first one, at least thrice, and same for the second installment. Then I moved on to God of War III and boy was it awesome.

The story behind God of War is pretty straight forward. Kratos wants to kill Zeus to get revenge because he kinda stabbed Kratos in the gut with a 4 foot glowing blue blade that shot lightning. I'm not that excited about the story so much as the gameplay, but i'll get to that later. The story is fine, but I dont think SCE Santa Monica really focused on that so much. The real funis in the gameplay.

The action in this game is amazing, in a nut shell. Ripping off heads and slicing off giant fingernails is always a blast. The weapons are very vast in God of War III. They each have their own special attacks and magic power which causes even more distruction. They have different attacks, yes, but the problem is, they don't really cause any significant damage compared to your normal Blades of Exile (Kratos' brand-spankin' new blades) which makes them seem like it's just another weapon to use. They're still fun to use though; using different executions with the awesome sound-effects. Now, the boss battles are a whole different story. If you're playing on normal, you'll go through the game no problem, with a few deaths sprinkled on top. But if you're playing on Titan (hard), the game amps up the difficulty to make it feel you're on Very Hard. The problem I have with hard, is the stronger enemies tend to be like mini-bosses. They do a buttload of damage while taking about have of what you deal. It's different, but fighting the same guy 10 times gets pretty boring. But, all of this is still fun and exciting in the bloody and gorey world of Kratos.

There is a challenge after you beat the game called the Challenge of Olympus that has six or seven trials that require you to do difficult tasks that get pretty hard. One instance is one challenge where you need to kill everything with your bare hands. This seems somewhat easy, but when you play it, it gets pretty annoying. The main reason for this is because of the auto-aim you have with the grabbing move. Let's say you wanna grab a sentry to push him around like a battering ram to kill the big dudes. But, when you go for a sentry, you always seen to aim for the big guy first, so you end up stumbling backwards. This is very annoying because the auto-aim doesn't need to be there. Also, with another challenge, you must break 30 urns in 20 seconds. Sounds easy, right? Well, it should be, but your blades either hit them, go through them, or go over them. Lame. Anyways, it's still a good addition to a good game.

The graphics are way better now. Seeing Kratos get covered in blood, and watch the optic nerve get ripped out as you pull a cyclops' eye out. This and the added motion blur make the game look that much better. Some of the textures or very low-res but, this IS a console game. The over-60 fps graphics are a great sight to behold. Though the camera can get in tedious places, like behind walls or bigger enemies where you can't see anything. But, you get used to it.

God of War III is a great installment in the series. Brutal, exciting, and just plain fun. I'd recommend this to anybody who doesn't have a mother to disgust with it's brutality.
