An amazing swan song to the most visceral and cathartic action game ever made.
This game is all about scale and presence, the sheer amount of work and efort that has gone into the fluid animation is very telling.
First off the story, this is the conclusion to Kratos's tale of bloody revenge and it doesnt dissapoint.
Kratos begins his journey on the back of Titan Gaia, and proceeds to eliminate all the gods and finally Zeus. its very much standard quest to the final boss with puzzles and bosses along the way. Its the way this quest is executed that lays the smackdown on any other action adventure games. The pacing is good if a bit erratic at the start but the on a higher difficulty your triumphs are faaar more rewarding. Kratos doesnt develop much more than we have seen in past games, he's as anti-heroic and unlikeable as ever. However Kratos for me as always been an Id for stress releif not heroics.
Combat is king in God of War, there are lot of people who bring up games like DMC and Bayonetta in comparison. However it all depends on the preference of the gamer, the excellent about this game is that it hits a sweet spot where weapon switches for different monsters mixed with satisfying hit physics made for an excellent combat experience.
Graphically a stunning peice of achievement for the guys at Santa Monica studios, and kudo for Kratos as the most amazing character model in gaming. Lets face it he wont be winnig as a role model.
Overall this was a game with some unrealistic expections both from devs and gamers alike, if you were dissapointed by this game its time to re-adjust your hack n slash expectations. This is another winner for the ps3 as flagship reminder of the promises made loong ago.
