Ghost of Sparta is another fun adventure like you'd expect, though probably the worst of the series to date.

Ghost of Sparta is the most recent addition to the God of War franchise. While I got rid of my PSP before I had a chance to play this, I was happy they re-released it on the PS3. After playing it, I was mostly satisfied, but I will admit that, all things considered, this is probably the worst of all of the God of War games to date.

GAMEPLAY - If you've played other God of War games, you shouldn't expect anything new here. Just hack and slash at its finest. I will say, however, that the PSP GOW games are much easier in difficulty than the console versions, and this may turn some people off. But overall the combat is fun. We get a new weapon in the form of a shield and spear (speaking of which, there is a ton of stuff in this game that looks like it was taken out of the movie 300). While I enjoyed using this in the demo, in the actual game it just entered too far into the adventure to be considered a valuable weapon. Also, the magic is pretty much useless in this game. I can usually find one or two spells that I rely on heavily, but none of the spells here ever felt that useful to me. Lastly, you get an additional bar on top of your health and mana to give your attacks fire damage. This was a cool add-on, and probably the only thing unique to this game that made it stand out. Otherwise this game is like any other God of War game. You collect stuff, upgrade Kratos, and kill baddies by the hundreds. - 7.5/10

STORY - This game is all about Kratos seeking out his brother. Those who have done everything possible in the first game can see why this proves to be an interesting premise behind this game. Unfortunately this is a game more about the destination than the journey, which is something I think games should NEVER strive to do. The journey should always be just as enjoyable, if not more so, than the destination. This game just felt bland as I made my way through it. I felt like I was just going through the motions in a bunch of environments that weren't all that special. - 7/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics have improved since Chains of Olympus, which is good to see. Animations haven't changed much though. This still looks like it almost belongs on a PS2. - 6.5/10

SOUND - Pretty much what you'd expect. Same cast of voice actors and same music tracks remixed in different ways. - 7.5/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - I didn't clock in how long I played this, but it did feel slightly longer than Chains of Olympus, and still in the ballpark of the other GOW games. I just didn't enjoy this game that much because of the poor magic skills and boring single player journey. - 6/10

BOTTOM LINE - Ghost of Sparta, while another fun game that God of War fans should enjoy, is probably the worst of the series. With such an interesting premise to the story, you think the game would just naturally flow better, but it doesn't. Between poor magic skills and a boring single player adventure, there isn't much to provide a saving grace for this game. Even at the end of the game, much like Chains of Olympus, the final boss is very anti-climactic. However, if you want a fun on-the-go adventure with Kratos, or you're just itching for another said adventure for your PS3, Ghost of Sparta does get the job done. Just don't expect anything outstanding here. - 7/10
