This compilation is a great opportunity to experience 2 of the greatest PS2 games. It is definitely a very good deal.
Though I was a bit worried by the age of the games and the old graphics, the experience was great, intense, fun and spectacular....in HD !
With the first GoW, you enter the story of Kratos the ghost of Sparta and his quest for revenge from Ares the God of War. The scenario and story telling are really good in this one. You deal with a lot of Greek mythology myths in your quest to save Athens and to retrieve Pandora's Box.
As Far as gameplay is concern it is total and brutal action. It is a pleasure to smash and slice all the enemies though sometimes you feel you are just smashing the same buttons. It is really efficient and spectacular.
There are also some little problems with GoW I. The first one is about controls and especially the double jump. The fixed camera is also sometimes hard to deal with. There is a lack of boss Fight which a shame because they are great. Some puzzles are hard deal with and sometimes annoying. And finally the game is too short (8 hours the first time).
Hopefully GoW II solve most of these problems and add more brutality. There is more Boss Fight, the controls are more efficient, the puzzle are not noisy anymore, the game is longer, there is more weapons and the graphics are better. Overall it is a better game than GoW. The only problem with this one is the story: it is not a really interesting one and you feel it is just a set up for the third opus.
So my overall experience with GoW collection is great. I have liked the 2 games which I both replay once, and now I am ready to attack God of War 3. Sure don't expect to be impressed by the graphics, there are only PS2 Games but at this price it is a deal that you don't want to miss.
