First of all, it's worth noting that God of War is a great game. Slashing and bashing your way through swarms of enemies while solving puzzles along the way has proven to be a great game style that has truly withstood the test of time. Perhaps what makes this game even more great is the original style they add to this genre, making it seem to feel like it's something new or special. By '"style" of coarse I mean lots and lots of blood and who could forget carnage! You play as a ruthless spartan warrior by the name of Kratos who, after the torment of his slaughted victims, decides to lose all hope and abandon his own life. Yes, a little trite but the feel of the cutscenes and the nearly flawless renovation of greek mythology, one can see this game is truly made their own. Despite the game's visual look and the feel however, the gameplay isn't very original and often times is merely for button-mashers. The puzzles are fairly easy and you never find yourself lost within the game's rich and large enviornments. It doesn't look as though the paths are unnatural in order make them navigable as well. However this mostly effects the games feel and look and not really the gameplay itself. It could have used a bit more challenging puzzles instead of just the rather easy but well polished puzzles. The reason why I say this is because the puzzles are definately one of the greatest if not the best element of the game merely because of the creativity it took to incorporate these to its gory feel. For instance you will solve puzzles like making human sacrifices by burning a man alive in order to unlock a door (TOASTY!) This has an amzing feel to it but it would be better if it wasn't spoon fed to you. The fighting system involves one strategy: Button Mashing. For this, probobly the game biggest flaw the gameplay really takes a step down from what it's potential could be. this also helps us to realize that behind this game's creativity, enviornments, and mood it is simply a regular old action game with regular old gameplay just polished to the max with excellent graphics, sound, and creativity. In all they hit more than they missed but that only proves for the misses to stick out more.
