God of War is an amazing game for the PS2. In a genre that's been choked with failure, and some notable success, GoW manages to make it's own indelible mark. So many elements of this game had to be executed perfectly for the whole to shine as it does: context sensitive moves, the simple interface, gore, etc. All of these elements are flawless, and exciting to use. You wouldn't imagine that a fighting system of two buttons could feel so deep and visceral, but it does. You wouldn't think that Context Sensitive Actions would feel like you're really DOING them, but they do. The first time you butcher a Minotaur with your swords in one of these CSAs, you'll embrace them completely. In a time when so many developers seem to pander to a "pg-13" console market, and sacrifice polish for release deadlines, SCEA really stands apart from the crowd. I have not played a game so thoroughly polished since GTA:SA or Ninja Gaiden. Every element feels seamless, and when you're talking about a wedding of pulse pounding action, and genuinely interesting puzzles that's a notable achievement. From a purely technical standpoint, the sound, voice acting, graphics, and gameplay are absolutely the top of the line. If you have ANY inclination towards action games, fps', or you loved the Soul Reaver series (this is much MUCH better btw), do yourself a favour and BUY THIS GAME.
