Difficult, yet rewarding. Story could use more complexity but the atmosphere is fantastic.

Played it for the first time in 2012 so I'm possibly more harsh on it than I would of been back when it was originally released. Some sections are ragetastic but never feel overly cheap and the game always rewards your efforts. Some of the powers the game gives you easily outshine the rest, I never found myself using any magic aside from Poseidon's rage. Although I only used a handful tactics, the constant change up in new mobs and adjustments to older ones leave it refreshing. The pacing seems odd at some points, which makes the overarching simple story more obvious. Kratos' personal story seemed more interesting to me than I expected and it justifies his angry facade. Overall its still worth playing in 2012, modern games have adjusted me to more complex and deep stories, but it's easy to overlook considering how well the game nails its atmosphere and makes its gameplay harsh yet rewarding, and simplistic yet refreshing.
