A relatively fun mashing button beat em' up game...

User Rating: 8.5 | God Hand PS2
Where has those classic beat em' up games went to? Back in the days, we have Double Dragon and the likes. But now a days, it seems its hard to relive what actually made beat em' ups fun and innovative. God Hand from Clover brings us something which is a relatively fun mashing button style of game.

Graphics:
The characther models are done extremely well. It seems that Clover did get an advantage in graphic visuals after producing one of the best looking games, Okami. The character models are spot on cool stuff and definitely a thing which makes the game beautiful. However, it isn't so for the level design. Many of the levels and its corresponding background are bland and boring to look at.

Sound:
This is the highest point of the game. Voice acting are solid stuff as it really do show the expression of how the characters are in the game. It comes hand in hand with the excellent soundtrack as well.

Gameplay:
As with any beat em ups, this is the meat of the game. While you won't get the deepness and the sheer experiance gameplay of DMC3 and NG:B, God Hand do hold itself pretty well. Tearing a page off Capcom's own DMC3 mechanics, there are some similarities in God Hand's gameplay.

You can execute combos after combos on your enemies without any rate of slowing down at all! During times where you fill up 2 of your ball meter, you can also unleash Roulette moves which are indeed... special moves in sort of a way. Then theres your God Hand which allows Gene to go into a hyper frenzy mode where he can unleash combos at blazing speeds!

Overall, the gameplay is fairly good. There are alot of moves as you can purchase them with the money you earn from defeating enemies and collecting them through the level.

BuY it oR RenT IT?
God Hand is a fairly long game even if it is a beat em' up action game. So renting this game isn't really the best way, but the downside is... theres not really too much replay value in God Hand. Indeed a hard choice, but I'd say pick this game up as it is one of the better beat em' up actions recently.
