Goblin Commander E3 2003 Preshow Report

Jaleco's real-time strategy game will be shown at E3 2003.

One of Jaleco Entertainment's main showcases at this year's E3 will be Goblin Commander, a real-time strategy game in development for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. Ron and Chris Millar, who both had a hand in the development of such hit Blizzard titles as Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo, are spearheading the game's development. In the game, you assume the role of a goblin commander--a sentient being that has complete control over its respective goblin clan. Your goal is to fight against an evil wizard named Fraziel, who has taken control of his own goblin clan, disrupting the balance of power.

As the goblin commander, you will have the ability to purchase and direct any units that belong to your clan. Every clan will consist of five separate goblin units, including melee units for hand-to-hand combat, ranged units for distance attacks, and support units whose sole purpose is to enhance the abilities of the rest of your group. Currency in the game is measured in both gold and souls. Souls are acquired by killing enemies, and they serve as the primary source of currency and allow you to purchase new units for your clan. Gold can be found by wandering around the world, and it can be used to purchase upgrades for your existing units. Goblin Commander will utilize the standard RTS point-and-click method of controlling your units, as well as an option that allows you to control units via the left analog stick.

Goblin Commander is scheduled for release at the end of the year.
