Go! Go! Hypergrind marks Spumco's entrance to the world of skateboarding games, and adds its own perverse and unique twist: scattered throughout the game's handful of levels are a variety of deadly traps that decapitate, puncture, or bedeck with feces (or milk or paint) your cel-shaded character, which increases appeal, and is the main point of the game. The skating controls are very simple and take almost no getting used to, and the timing for each gimmick (as described above) varies enough to keep the gameplay fresh for the first few go-rounds. But a lack of any real expandability, aside from a slapped-together item collection and the prerequisite skateboard/deck collection, hurts the game in the long run. Once you've played this through, which doesn't take more than five or six hours, you've pretty much seen what Go! Go! Hypergrind has to offer. The multiplayer does add to the gameplay experience, as the two-player split-screen brings some new game types to the fray, including a Simon Says in which appeals must be performed in the order presented on-screen. There's also a lot to be said for the reaction of your friends when they see Go! Go! Hypergrind for the first time. Truth be told, this game is a great rental, but you can probably buy it for less than the rental price. Look around and try this out. Once you've finished it, pass it around and let your friends have a go. This is a good addition to the skateboarding genre, and adds its own unique and unforgettable twists.
