The Bottom Line:
"Surprisingly good"
This game is so easy to get into it's a joke. It only takes around 5 minutes of knowing all the buttons, and it's all action after that. The fire burning on his skull, chains, and just about everywhere is beautiful. The controls are amazingly responsive, and moves are amazing. The small details are cool, such as the color change of his skull when you get "brutal" for constant hitting, and the blue flame is just cool. I have never read any Ghost Rider comics or known anything about him, but he's just the burning hero that goes crazy in combat for me, plus his back story is pretty cool. I noticed the story mode is arranged in challenges, which made me think the gameplay and story are nearly completely separate, but was i wrong. The separate challenges are all action packed, and show Ghost Rider heading from one place to another, killing demons and such on the way. The gameplay is amazing, and the graphics help it a lot too. The animations are realistic, and the combos are tempting to pull off because the swinging chains (just like God of War) produce beautiful circles in midair. The one thing about graphics that is not as impressive is the bike, which controls and runs pretty smoothly, but at low speeds, the tires just seem fake. They kind of glide, so the spinning of the wheel felt separate from the actual movement of the bike. The traction just felt non-existent, which is unfortunate since the other details of the game were better. The challenges give upgrades and other content if you complete certain objectives through the process of one level, and the levels are relatively short, so replaying a level multiple times to get more moves is an enjoyable process, especially when you feel tired and brainless, so just beating stuff up feels pretty fun and doesn't tire you out. Usually, games that branch off from movies discourage watching that movie or are not worth renting at all because it's just another advertisement the movie companies try to put onto the shelf, but this game is definitely one that will draw people who don't know anything about Ghost Rider to watching the movie.......or reading his backstory on Wikipedia. I suspect that the psp version is a lot better than the others, since on such a tiny screen bad graphics can look really detailed, so gamespot's review makes sense, but not for the psp version. Edit: score lowered because after i played for a period of time at the higher levels it felt like i was developing tendonitis from all the button mashing.

  1. This Devil May Cry rip-off gets tiresome soon, although it's fun at the start. The extras are better than the game.

  5. Ghostrider is a solid Hack N Slash game for the PSP, which fans of the film will enjoy. Good multiplayer functions too.
