Repetitive yet interesting gameplay, weak A.I., blasted lack of online multiplayer, and short but interesting campaign.

In my personal opinion, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex fall right in line with any other shooter. It's the exact same shooter action everyone's used to, with players facing pretty much the same enemies over and over again. and the weak A.I. does nothing to improve that fact. It seemed to me that literally every grunt enemy had the same A.I., just a different character model here and there. There were a couple of exceptions, like the Think Tanks, Armored Suits, and the Helicopter, but overall the A.I. made the shooting less interesting.

Another thing, which, being as this was my first PSP game, took some getting used to, was the lock-on feature. I'm sort of used to lock-on's(played Metroid Prime), but I'm just not used to it in any other game. And to be honest, I think it's a good thing for some shooters. For example, lock-on has no place in a game like Star Wars Battlefront 2, but in an average shooter(so long as it's a handheld version), it fits in just fine. look at it this way: the controls are rather odd for anyone at first, when compared to console shooters, but after some getting used to, they're just fine. The only problem is that it's still hard to aim at a target manually, especially when they're moving. this makes the lock-on feature welcome.

The campaign in to short. I can see how with such repetitive gameplay, and a somewhat preset storyline(that's the problem with movie and TV based games, they're rather limiting), it would be hard to lengthen the campain, but they could've perhaps made the missions longer, and put more missions in the game. This would have resulted in.....just that a longer campaign.

The only thing I simply and purely hate about Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is the fact that it has not online multiplayer. It happens to be my opinion that ALL FPS's should feature online multiplayer. after beating Ghost in the Shell, my first thought was "Ok, now lets try it online. Wait, it doesn't have online multiplayer. Blast it!!". This single factor deprives players of a potentially intense and enthralling experience.

Overall, it's an average shooter, no better and no worse than any other of the genre. If you want to play online, want the absolute best game ever, or are looking for the best PSP graphics ever, this probably isn't your game. But if you're willing to settle for average gameplay, ad-hoc only multiplayer, yet an interesting plot and gameplay, you will enjoy Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
