User Rating: 8.8 | Gex 3DO
The 3DO library does not have a great number of 2D platform based games if you consider its library of movies, sports, strategy, action and etc. When 3DO was alive most of its developers were also making games for PCs that didn´t have a great variety of games such as Gex, a traditional 2D platformer. It all starts when Gex, a gecko whose father died in a accident at NASA, was watching television and suddenly got trapped in the Media Dimension by Rez. Gex´s objective is to find remote controllers to blow up TV´s and return to his dimension. The game has 5 worlds, the Cemetery, New Toonland, Jungle, Kung Fu and Rez and each of them includes several levels with a map a and a Boss to defeat. Gex is a lizard and it is obvious that his actions and movements are similar to a lizard. Gex can walk on the walls, smack bugs (power-ups) and perform other interesting things a lizard can do. The bosses are tougher to beat than the levels, with some practice they get easier to beat but some of them can make you mad. The only way to save the game is finding a video tape and finish the level. The game levels are pretty well designed and not enormous like other platformers, they have the perfect balance of nice graphics, great visual effects and correct lenght. Gex has a great variety of music since every theme matches the climate and atmosphere of the world level. It is hilarious to listen to Gex´s voice and other sounds from the creatures of the game, it does add a lot of humor to the game. Gex is truly a great 2D platformer that can be enjoyable even nowadays.
