Here, we'll provide some technical support by covering some frequently-asked questions about PS3 hardware and common issues. My PS3 keeps shutting itself off with a solid yellow light on display.

Your PS3 may be overheating, in which case you should ensure your console isn't covered up or stored in a cramped space. The PS3 hardware itself is designed to prevent overheating, but the yellow light may also be a signal of a rarer but more-serious hard-drive failure, better known as the "yellow light of death." Please see Sony's support site for more details.

I got an error code 800--something-or-other.

If your PS3 is giving you an error message with a code that starts with "800," it's possible that your PS3 might need its system software updated, or that your settings may need to be restored to their defaults. Please see Sony's support site for more details.

Can I play my favorite PS2 and PS1 games on my PS3?

Unfortunately, not all PS2 and PS1 games are completely compatible with newer editions of the PS3 hardware. You may with to double-check Sony's backwards compatibility search page to see which games will work and which won't.
