This is easily the best Xbox Live Arcade game out right now.

Geometry Wars is a shoot 'em up that'll probably remind you of all the fond memories you had with this genre back in the day.

First off, I'll let you know that I don't have an HDTV but you don't really need one to really appreciate the visuals of this game. The very first time I booted this game up, I thought to myself "This is possible on a standard definition TV?" I'm not making that up. The colors look gorgeous on all the shapes and they're just lovely to look at. The screen is constantly filled with enemies and there are lots of vibrant explosions. The little spaceship that you fly around reminds me of Pac-Man but in a hexagon shape if that makes any sense.

Geometry Wars is a blast to play-- I'm not going to lie about that. You'll find fast-paced gameplay done right with Geometry Wars. The best way to describe this game is that it's an endurance game. As you defeat enemies your multiplier will go up. For example, let's say shooting a blue triangle normally gives you 50 points when you start out. When you collect the 2x multiplier then it'll be worth 100 points. A 3x multiplier would be 150 and so on.

Your multiplier gets reset to 1 if you happen to die; that makes it so that it's difficult to consistently earn big points. You can avoid dying by shooting the shapes that come after you, avoiding shapes that you can't shoot right away and using a bomb when all else fails. The bomb clears the entire screen of shapes but you don't get points for what you would normally get if you had shot the shapes using your normal cannon.

The more you learn about the sound Geometry Wars, the better you'll do. You'll notice that every shape has a distinct sound effect when it enters the screen. If you learn the sounds that each shape makes then you'll know what's coming before you even see it. For example, if you hear the snakes coming then you'll know to maybe use a bomb because snakes are brutal in packs. There's only song that plays during gameplay but it doesn't ever get old. It's a catchy electronic song and it really gets your head nodding.

When it comes down to it, you can't find a better arcade game for $7.75. Geometry Wars is just an arcade game but it stands tall even to retail games. Geometry Wars is addictive as hell and you'll be glad that you bought it. Thanks for reading.
