Geometry Wars: Galaxies User Review
- Difficulty:

- The Bottom Line:
- "Masterpiece"
Final Score: 10/10 (A+)
I received this game as a surprise for Christmas, and I've been playing it so much ever since. Geometry Wars Galaxies is the real deal when it comes to 2D shooters. It takes a simple concept and makes it go a long way in terms of replay value.
Geometry Wars originated on the 360 Arcade, and it was popular enough to produce two sequels, Retro Evolved 2 and this. Basically, you shoot enemies inside of a shape on a grid, and these shapes vary between levels, and so do the enemies. You also have a partner that helps you too.
Geometry Wars Galaxies is extremely fun and addicting. Shooting enemies allows for a big burst of colors to appear, and huge numbers appear as you score. The enemies include pinwheels, eyeballs, boxes, and even snakes. The variety of enemies is what keeps this game fresh. After destroying enemies, you get these yellow pellets. Collecting them gives you more firepower and higher scores. It's satisfying as you kill enemies with ease. Even with all the enemies on the screen, there's zero slowdown and the framerate is fast and smooth. You also get a windshield wiper like attack which kills all the enemies on the screen, but you only get three of them (you can get more), keeping the game from being too easy and too hard.
If you have the classic controller, this game is an A+. Using the dual analog stick controller makes it very easy to move around and kill enemies, and it reminded me of Smash TV. You can't get the true experience of Geometry Wars until you pick up this controller. The 2 player Co-op is also sweet. The original Retro Evolved is ALSO included, making for a terrific value.
The graphics are excellent. The colorful enemies and stages remind me of an Atari 2600 title with Modernized graphics. The techno soundtrack is also superb, and it fits the action well.
Geometry Wars Galaxies on the Wii is a fantastic 2D pick up and play shooter you will never put down. It's challenging but never frustrating, and it will appeal to hardcore and casual gamers.I love this game so much, that I always show it off to friends. Those who played Asteroids will appreciate it most (yes I have played Asteroids a LOT). This is a fantastic game for the Wii, and as far as 2D shooters go, it doesn't get much better than this.

Geometry Wars Galaxies is just as much fun, if not more, on Wii than originally it was on Xbox 360
