Killing archers to the sounds of Toru Takemitsu has never been this much fun! Glad I rented it and beat it twice!

Ok, I'm just going to tell you all this now: Wait until this game is cheaper - much cheaper - before you buy it. I beat this game on my first play through in 8 hours. Then again in 6 1/2. This is a very short game. That said, it's surprisingly real good. It has a big Capcom feel to it. The gameplay, the sound effects, the menus, it's just all very reminiscent of the Onimusha series, but don't think it's just like those games.

Sure, Genji consists of you mostly slashing the hell out of things and the Kamui system, while absolutely beautiful, makes things ridiculously easy (even the last boss can be hurt with this ability)... but it's easily the prettiest game I've played in soooo long and the music is amazing. The battle music sounds like a Toru Takemitsu composition (he did the Ran soundtrack). Taiko drums, koto, satori, shamisen - the works.

The sound, look, and feel of Genji is marvelous. If only it weren't so easy and so short. I mean, you get more on your 2nd playthrough and it's got at least that much replay value, but it ends there until I feel like picking it up again. I rented this game through Gamefly, beat it twice (the second time on the morning of day 3), and sent it right back. Those are its flaws and, sadly, those are mighty ones. If you got the scrilla to burn, you'll enjoy this game a lot. However, if you're a frugal gamer, wait this one out or rent it.
