A chop em up game action game, that has fun gameplay and looks good but unfortunatly is over as fast as it begins.

User Rating: 7 | Genji: Dawn of the Samurai PS2
In Genji you are in ancient fuedal Japan in the time of samurais and shoguns, at this certain time a certain faction has suddenly grown powerful out of nowhere and is trying to take over Japan. This faction is called the Heishi it is a clan ruled by warriors where the strong rule over the weak. You play as **** a young man who has a special item which grants him inhuman power. This item is known as a "Amahagane" it allows certain chosen people to tap into there latent power making them a monter on the battlefield only matched by other users of Amahagane. **** is thrown into the fray due to his ownership of a Amahagane it seems as though the Heishi are collecting all of them that they can get their hands on and this is how they plan to rule Japan. Through this **** begins to fight against the Heishi and finds it to be his duty to bring them down and save Japan from the power-mad tyrants of the Heishi. **** decided that to do this he must travel training and collecting all of the Amahagane that he can find to give him enough power to fight against the tyranical Heishi.

To begin I will throw out the major flaw that dampers the quality of Genji for the most part, the length of the game. This game is not just short, many games are short this game is only a 10 hours long action game at the very best which happens sometimes but it is not a good thing and lowers the games playability alot. Although it pains me to put it like this if they had only drawn out the storyline of the game I believe it could have been much better. A game no matter how fun if it is over as fast as it begun it can only be so good. Now that I have explained the reason that I didn't like the game I can explain in detail the rest of the games details. The storyline of Genji: Dawn of the Samurai is pretty linear in fact it is very linear not just because they didn't make many twists and turns in the storyline but because the storyline was so short. The story itself was good it had many positive elements about it even though it was simple it went with the historical timeline and story which was a plus it gave the story alot of background without having to go into it as deep as usual.

There are 2 playable characters in this game firstly of course is **** who wields twin katanas with great speed and agility and then there is Benkei who wields large hammers and clubs and decimates his foes with raw power and brute force. Throughout the game you can play on and off between the characters for almost every part of the game allowing you to play as the one that you like or prefer. Playing as only one is an option but there are many spots where ****'s agility is needed to get to a certain area as well as the brute power of Benkei. In Genji you have various attack combos but also have one big special skill that both of the heros share this ability allows you to center yourself and quickly strike your foes as they charge you with massive damage if you can time it correctly. This power is can be used in different ways if you are good enough to use it on bosses who have harder to time ones you can kill them faster and receive items to make special equipment or you can use it to clear out large groups of enemies or ones that give you trouble with ease.

The gameplay is fairly simple in Genji with attacking, blocking, and your special skill there isn't all that many options of what to do in battle this although doesn't end up being a bad thing. Maybe it was because of how short the game was or maybe it was due to the fun of the gameplay running around chopping people up with sword combos or killing groups of enemies in single slashes with their special skill. Either way since the storyline is as short as it is I suppose the answer is oblivious the combat in Genji is very fun and will keep you entertained throughout the entire game with ease.

Graphically Genji was very visually pleasing, great backgrounds make it look twice as good as you go around tearing your enemies to shreds. The animations are fluent and look very good like you would expect from most games that try to look good with many cutscenes it gave a nice feel to the game. Sound quality was similar it was nothing extravagant nothing that you would notice and think "Wow that is awesome!" but it keeps the tone for the game and entertains you somewhat as you slice your foes into pieces with your swords. I rate Genji: Dawn of the Samurai a flat 7.0 out of 10, although it was well worth the $10 price tag the price of a game isn't in my ratings but it was a fun game I might play through a few times however how short it is was very disappointing. I would suggest anyone to play this game if you like games like Onimusha or God of War I am sure you would enjoy it while it lasts and for such a cheap bargain bin price you can't go wrong.
