The game looks great and the story as well as the game play is great, but the game is too short.

User Rating: 6.1 | Genji: Dawn of the Samurai PS2
You could say that the appearance of this game may deceive you. Genji Dawn of the Samurai is a game you can enjoy while it lasts but it lacks many things.

Story: During the feudal era in Japan, a great war between the two groups the Genji tribe and the Heishi tribe has brought chaos to the land. The war has final come to an end with the victory of the Heishi tribe. With the defeat of the Genji tribe nothing can stop the Heishi from ruling Japan with an iron fist. Many have feared the heishi tribe, because for those who disrespect them, death is often the punishment. A few years have passed and now a few groups of warriors have gathered together in secrecy, to put a stop to the Heishi’s reign of terror.

Game design: The game graphics is beautifully done. The characters are detailed to almost every single bit. The game seems so real you would just rather walk around the streets of feudal Japan to just wander it.
The game is split in different events. Events happen in certain places and you will be given the task to either rescue people or defeat a number of enemies. However you will be playing 3 chapters and each will have 5 events where each will take at least 3 minutes for you to complete. There are also pre-rendered cut scenes which will let you enjoy good cinematic pictures.

Game Play: You will first be playing as the young samurai warrior **** You will then be united will Benke. There are different places from where only each of these characters can reach, but that is only in a few stages otherwise it wouldn’t matter who you would choose.
Yoshitsune is a lot more agile. He can move quick and can perform wall jumps and many slashing sword combos. Benke is huge and lacks agility but makes up for has massive strength. With his giant club he can send enemies sky high and even break things that Yoshitsune normally can’t. Each character will gain new weapons along the way and new moves. However due to the game’s length you could just as well get passed the entire game without needing to buy new weapons. The enemies aren’t that wide either; most of them will be the same.

Sound: The music in the game is delicate, a perfect tone for the game. There are voice castings and great realistic sound effects.

The game is perfect in every way. The control scheme is simple, the graphics and music is amazing but the game is really really short. You will be going through the main quest for around 6 hours with almost no side quests at all. There are extra tasks you can do after the game but they aren’t really that interesting.
As good as this game looks it’s only worth nothing more than a rental.
