Chris Watters murders his way through this video review for Gears of War 3.
To me the campaign is weak but the multiplayer once you figured out that with the free booster pack you can then play online without dlc , is simply amazing , horde alone is wow .
As an industrial designer working in the entertainment industry, I'm not as impressed with this title as are most noncreative game playing types out there. The story in the single-player campaign contains so many industry cliches that I just want to vomit. It's the single-player campaign in video games where the developers have the only true opportunity to make the game really shine by showcasing gameplay action and story telling elements to impress the public and the guys at Epic Games truly missed their mark with this one. Although Gears 3 is an impressive title for the Xbox console, let's not forget that they designed a game to play on hardware that's already over 7 years old--very old technology in relation to PC hardware standards. The game is in low resolution with some very noticeable screen tearing issues on certain levels (the xbox hardware can't handle vertical syncing very well when there's a lot of activity on the screen) and there's jagged lines everywhere you look on screen (very poor anti-aliasing). All of these faults with the graphics make this game look like a mud wall when compared to today's pc games like Shogun 2 or Battlefield 3, for example. It's really sad when developers let their arrogance overtake logical thinking and common sense by not releasing a pc version of a popular title for consumers. Very sad indeed.
This game crushes anything on the overpriced internet ready blu ray player. Completely awesome. "Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made." --John Carmack
personal preference bro. personal preference. the series has always been good and deserves its fair share of respect.
I've played the previous games in the series before and am playing this one right now. It doesn't feel all that impress with its SP mode. Like its predecessors, the levels are too linear, too enclosed, and full of little variety, making the variety of weapons and enemies not entirely able to make up for the other lacking portions. Also, the story is far from interesting and far from good, with forgettable audio, and a very stereotypical, annoying cast of characters.
And even though it's doing so with its SP mode because it's not meant to be too serious, Serious Sam and other more over-the-top games seem much better and more interesting in their gameplay than this. If it weren't for the popularity of this franchise and the good variety of MP modes, this would get boring very, very quickly.
i love how all they focus on is the story...the story is the best of the series and everything but come on get real...it's a shooter! you play the story a couple times and after that you spend countless hours online in horde or beast or versus. for me the shining point of this game is horde 2.0 - the fact that they advanced it by giving you barriers and a money system is incredibly fun. i have much more fun in horde than i'll ever have in the story and i beat it on insane. it's easily to me the best 3rd person shooter ever made and the combat is what this game is truly all about
Imissed the 2nd one! Icant wait to play this one. I will prolly play this one before I start the 2nd.. i dont know..
There maybe not the type of grenades you can throw back! Gears Of war is just a different type of war game. It shows true warfare in it most brutal form no fancie moves or any other bollocks true warfare in it's raw form.
This game is amazing! I would give it a 10 /10. All games in this day and age should be available for both consoles.
I agree and it's always going to be the same problem, big titles like COD on all systems and once every 4 years (almost) a company releasing a really awesome game but for one system.
The Gears of War series is one of the major reasons why you should own an XBox360 in the same manner that God of War 3 is why you should own a PS3. Notice that both games have the same GOW acronyms? :-)
A game that I wish to play being an owner of both: PS3 and X360, but I simply decided a long time ago I'll never play a shooter on a console. The experience is never as fun as on PC with a mouse, and never makes me feel in control and skilled as I feel when playing a shooter on my PC. This whole "console war" thing that convinces companies to not make some of their games, especially SHOOTING games for heaven's sake (!), not available for the PC, is just a really stupid, futile war. I sincerely hope that Epic Games and Microsoft decide to release this game for the PC, even if in a year, but I will simply never buy this game or any shooting game for a console...this is a promise.
@khoofia_pika Arkham City narrowly has my vote for GotY over GoW3 for these reasons: it's on all platforms, has excellent voice acting, great design and makes you genuinely change things up (as opposed to just having to use different guns).
Totally agree with this review and I've been pleasantly surprised by GoW3 - which I got as part of a promotion with my Xbox 360 - find myself coming back to it often. The only thing that I think stops GoW3 being Game of the Year is that it's an exclusive and is just a straight up shooter, albeit a very very good one.
They had a pretty damn good review of gears 3 on www.whatchuplaying.com and i guess they arent attached to any gaming sponsors, so their opinions are all fairly unbiased.
Aside from God of War the GOW series was the first one to make me actually sad when it was finished (campaign wise at least). Like the studio that made it a truly "epic" end to a great series.
a great finish to the trilogy. but how the time passes, it seems like only yesterday when i was playing the first in the series. :(
Also, now it's oficial, for those of you who were saying this was just hate or trolling. This game got 9,5. However, far to many people have been piling in the Epic Forums complaining of a very serious problem. If you play this game in split screen, there is a fairly large chance of the game freezing and crashing. If it does, when you try to reboot the game, you will not be able to play the game on any mode whatsoever. Because the crash permanently damages your player profile, stoping the game from booting any game mode. This is not just a few cases. Its a imense crowd. http://youtu.be/ep0ysAAiLDo
i finished it in one day because it was impossible to stop! that's how good this game is! i was 19 with GOW now im 24 and this is a journey i'll remember forever! sorry about the screaming!
