Activision unveils its GBA lineup

Spider-Man, DOOM, and X-Men are among the games that will join the already announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on the Game Boy Advance.

Activision has announced its upcoming lineup for the Game Boy Advance. The company plans to release several games under its most popular brands including Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX, Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder, DOOM, Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace, X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse, and the already announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.

"Activision is committed to putting the top brands in gaming in the palms of players' hands," Ron Doornink, president and COO of Activision, said. "Our titles are being developed to take full advantage of the Game Boy Advance, and we expect that the quality of these games will rival the level of gameplay found on the current generation of home consoles."

The Game Boy Advance version of Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX features eight riders, including Hoffman himself, and it lets players take on both vert and dirt-level courses. The game is being developed by HotGen. The tentatively titled Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder includes five snowboarders and 16 different courses. Developed by Natsume, the game will be released this fall. DOOM is based closely on the original PC game. Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace, a side-scrolling action game, is being developed by Vicarious Visions and will be released in the fall. X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up that features more than 40 characters from the X-Men universe. In the game's single-player story mode, players must fight through a barrage of enemies as they attempt to return home from a strange alternate universe. In the versus mode, up to four players can compete in head-to-head fighting game action using the GBA link cable. The game is being developed by Digital Eclipse, and it will be released this fall.
