E3 06: Wii COD 3, PS3 Spidey, 360 Tony Hawk on Activision's E3 plate

WWII soldiers, superheroes, skaters hit all three next-gen consoles this fall, along with Marvel.

LOS ANGELES--The floodgates have opened. Today, Activision revealed its upcoming lineup for next-gen systems, and no console is being ignored. The second largest third-party publisher (behind Electronic Arts) is bringing its most popular franchises and licenses to all three next-generation systems--Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360, and Nintendo's Wii.

As confirmed in the company's earnings call last week, Call of Duty 3 is coming out this fall, and it won't be headed to the PC, where the franchise started. COD3 will be released for all next-gen systems, as well as the Xbox and PlayStation 2. As of this morning, a developer was not yet mentioned, but speculation has it that it won't be Infinity Ward and will likely be Treyarch, the team that built Call of Duty: Big Red One for current-gen systems. COD3 will be set during the "Normandy Breakout," when the Allied Forces liberated Paris.

The name of Tony Hawk's newest adventure was also officially revealed today. Tony Hawk's Project 8, the game that CEO Bobby Kotick referred to as a "traditional" Tony Hawk release, ollies onto the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, PS2, and Xbox this fall.

Tony's other skating game, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, hits all of Nintendo's platforms except the GameCube this fall. The downhill racer, which Kotick said was targeted at more casual gamers, will appear on the Wii, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance. Nine different characters will ride down the steepest slopes of San Francisco, Hong Kong, and the ancient Andean city of Machu Picchu in head-to-head action.

The action role-playing game Marvel: Ultimate Alliance will save the day for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, Xbox, GBA, and PC toward the end of the year. The game will feature more than 140 characters from the Marvel universe, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Blade, and Captain America, as well as their evil nemeses.

Speaking of super heroes, Activision also announced that X-Men: The Official Game would be one of the centerpieces of its lineup at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Though partially based on the film X-Men: The Last Stand, the game will feature an all-new storyline that will act as a "prelude" to the movie's mutant-on-mutant action. The game is slated to ship for the PC, DS, Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Game Boy Advance next week.

The rest of Activision's E3 lineup includes: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PC); the expansion pack The Movies: Stunts & Effects (PC); the movie tie-in Over the Hedge (PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, DS, and GBA); and World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions (Xbox 360, PS2, PC, and PSP).

Call of Duty 3 on Nintendo Wii will outshine and outperform in the controlls department. On the other hand, on the PS3 and XBox 360 it will look much better, but will have the same old boring way of controlling your soldier.

I like how Call of Duty 3 is coming to the Wii. Imagine what realism it will bring when played on the Wii...I'm getting excited just thinking about it XD.

No CoD on PC? That can onl HELP PC gaming.

Save the consoles for the 12 year olds, leave the REAL gaming to the adult crowd.
