Gears of War wins GameFly awards

Epic Games favourite wins in two categories at the company's fourth annual awards.

Online game rental company GameFly today announced the winners of its 2006 Q Awards. Nearly 200,000 votes were placed by GameFly customers for this year's event, which the company says is the biggest number ever. Gears of War won both the Game of the Year and Xbox 360 Game of the Year categories, with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess picking up Wii Game of the Year and GameCube Game of the Year. The PlayStation 2 Game of the Year went to Final Fantasy XII, and PlayStation 3 to Resistance: Fall of Man. Other winners were Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories for the PlayStation Portable Game of the Year, Black for the Xbox, New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, and Final Fantasy V Advance in the GBA Game of the Year category.

Its a shame that this game wont see the light of day on a ps3... It would be awesome for this game to spread its legs on the ps3 (aswell as the pc, but I reckon its more of a console game as the controls are superb for it).

But anyways - I hope that the series will be well served on the 360. Because there is nothing worse than an awesome game to get overlooked!
I mean, check out the program LOST - it used to be on E4, getting loads of viewers in - but then Sky bought it out...
Thus leaving it to fewer viewers...

And there are those people who do not want a 360, and will miss out on this game!

Anyways - the game is fantastic, really fantastic. As a stance to show what next gen is about, and not only that - how games CAN be on next gen. Both as a cinematic piece, an incredible gameplay experience and an awesome end-product - its worthy of every award it got.

    More please!

Carterman00: So, you're saying that shooters and fighting games are the only kind of games that involves thinking, is that it? Seems like you are a great thinker.

How can you say Gears doesn't deserve the award? it was 200,000 votes, by CUSTOMERS that chose this award. People's choice. RPG's are for the unskilled, slower thinking, and the lesser hand-eye coordinated gamers. The best of the best gamers, showcase their skills in shooter tourneys, or fighting tourneys, because they show off skill, practice, and quick logical thinking, to outplay an opponent. the reason you're not going to see many FFII tourneys or oblivion tourneys, is because well, my little sister can explore caves and hit the same button over and over again to whack zombies, and giant rats, and a few pansie goblin skirmishers, and WOW if she figured out how to use health potions shes pretty much rendered invincible considering you can carry enough to heal an entire army. But i'll be damned if she can fight her way out of being pinned down by a skilled sniper whilst crouching behind a couple of sandbags, as he's moving for his perfect shot and all she has is a smoke grenade, a chainsaw and a couple shells left in her shotgun. This is when she'd have to act quickly, any sudden hesitation to think it over and... BAM her head is gone, like a melon dropped from 10 story building. Make one wrong move or spastic roll, and WHAP she's shot by a perfectly placed power bullet to the chest, downed, and bleeding out. But if she practiced, used quick logical thinking, even quicker, cover moving, and a well placed smoke grenade, and she has a skilled sniper flailing his arms as fenix's massive arms rip through his enemy's torso with a satisfying chainsawing BZzZZT. Locust blood on your screen means victory. Now thats much more satisfying than any armor or sword i've come across playing obvlivion.

Final Fantasy XII was the best game of 2006, without a doubt. Gears of War wins because it was the best next-gen game (at least according to magazines). I personally thought, if any next-generation game should've won, Oblivion would have been it. But Gears has online, and online and reputation are almost everything these days...

Trickyrich - "FF12 has the best story of all listed, so I don't see how GoW got away with it's shotty scrap book of story any 7 year old could write for english class(and still get a C at most). GoW online is probably just lame, with it's unbalanced weapons and gameplay, and serious host advantage."

FFXII does have the best story, but not the better game play. Plus, the main word in your online assumption is "probably". I can beat a host, so the advantage isn't too great, and online really comes in to effect in shotgun fights...it's a lag issue, internet 2.0 please. Also, the Gears weapons isn't unbalanced, and neither is the game play as that's technically impossible, as everyone can do the same things.

Gears deserves that award, like all of the others. It's just one of those games.

GoW online is probably just lame, with it's unbalanced weapons and gameplay, and serious host advantage. PS3 doesn't even have any worthy games.. so that category is irrelevent. I look forward to FF13, because FF12 certainly didn't disappoint.

Any suprises here? Not really. I haven't played GoW, but my friends seem to like it. I'm still plowing through Henne Mines at the moment, myself.

CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT HUH?... TOO BAD IT'S SO DARN SHORT!
AND IT ALSO ENDS IN A WEIRD MOMENT, COULD IT BE THAT 8.4 GB WASN'T ENOUGH FOR THOSE "AWESOME" GRAPHICS? I THINK SO, BUT NOBODY IS GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT CAUSE WE ALL LOVE MICROSOFT FOR SCREWING US ALL UP
