X-Men: The Official Movie Game officially set for May ship

Activision reveals that game based on would-be blockbuster X-Men: The Last Stand is coming to PC, PS2, DS, GBA, Xbox, GameCube, and 360.

Besides reporting lackluster holiday profits and its next-generation console plans, Activision took time today to unveil a game tie-in for the forthcoming film X-Men: The Last Stand. Currently bearing the working title of X-Men: The Official Movie Game, the game is set for release in May for the PC, DS, Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Game Boy Advance. It will also be released for the Xbox 360, the first game based on any Marvel Comics property to arrive on a next-generation console. No rating or pricing information was available.

Set between the events of the 2003 hit X2: X-Men United and Last Stand, which is due in theaters May 26, X-Men: The Official Movie Game is an actioner that lets players control three members of the titular superhero team. As the teleportin' German, frosty Yankee Iceman, or Adamantium-blade-totin' Canadian Wolverine, players will battle the forces of HYDRA, an evil pan-continential criminal organization featured in many X-Men comic books. The game will also explain why Nightcrawler, one of the most popular X-Men, will not be appearing in the upcoming feature film, the trailer for which is viewable below.

Players will pick a single hero to play as during the entirety of X-Men: The Official Movie Game, which will feature 28 single-player levels. For details on gameplay and the first screenshots of the game, check out GameSpot's first look at the uncanny adventure.

Actually, with Beast I'm rather curious if they're going to maintain their continuity as he had like a 2 second appearance in X2. He and Sebastian Shaw were being interviewed on the TV in the background for those that missed it.....

As long as it's better than the last X-Men movie tie-in they did. Wolverine's Revenge had absolutely NOTHING to do with the movies. If they had done it as a stand-alone game game it would've been fine. This time around I think it might be pretty good. I just hope that they didn't screw up by not having Singer as the director.

The best x-men game to date was the early 90's 6 person arcade game.

What's up with the stupid titles of movie tie-in games lately? First we have Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, and now X-Men: The Official Movie Game? As opposed to all the unofficial movie games that will get released, no doubt? When will they stop letting the marketing and legal departments name video games? This reminds me of when you see movie soundtracks titled stuff like "Men In Black: The Soundtrack". It's like, Oh really? I thought this music cd was the movie. Good thing it's labeled "the soundtrack" so there's no chance of me getting confused. And is the studio going to change the title of this movie against the director's wishes yet again? He wanted to name the sequel X2, which the studio changed to X-Men United. He wanted to name this movie X3, and now they're calling it The Last Stand? Next time you go see a movie in theaters, remember that Hollywood thinks you're stupid and that you need a subtitle to figure out the general premise of the flick you're seeing.

Can't say I'm excited with another X-men game. Most have been subpar or just weak. The only decent ones are the two X-men Legends IMO. Can I say cash cow or what? Another movie another game to tie-in... *YAWN*...
