Designed By: Collin Oguro Introduction The Phantasy Star universe is a long-standing console RPG series that dates back to 1987, when the first game in the series, Phantasy Star, was created as a first-person dungeon crawl that melded fantasy elements with science fiction. The depth of characters and the ability to explore an entire solar system made it stand out from the crowd - in fact, the game still holds its own today. The series continued, with eight games in the series (including four that are only available in Japan). Enter Phantasy Star Online. While set in the same universe, Phantasy Star Online has few ties to the original series. Instead, the storyline of Phantasy Star Online revolves around the planet Ragol and the fate of the ship Pioneer 1. Pioneer 1 was sent to colonize Ragol with an initial group of colonists whose goal was to set up the infrastructure on the planet in preparation for the main colonization force that was to follow in Pioneer 2. All went as planned, until Pioneer 2 approached Ragol. When the two ships attempted to communicate, a massive explosion ravaged the surface of Ragol. Unable to contact Pioneer 1, the principal - the captain of Pioneer 2 - has mandated that colonization will not happen until he has found out what happened on the surface of Ragol.
