Dirty Tricks and Useful Hints

  • You can keep opponents down fairly easily by using a strong attack when they're in the last frame of their rising animation. With enough practice, you can totally keep someone on the mat (until they learn to counter it).

  • Chances of a submission are based on the total amount of damage that has been dealt to an opponent, so it's not a bad idea to start cinching in those sleeper holds and figure-four leg locks if your opponent is kicking out of your finishers and pin attempts. Submissions are a great way to take out troublesome painful difficulty CPU wrestlers as well.

  • A real nasty way to handle tough opponents is to constantly shift from fighting within the ring and outside. You'll notice that if you duck out of the ring, the CPU will be vulnerable to a grapple or strike during the exit animation. Take advantage of this by constantly popping in and out of the ring and abusing your opponents as they follow you.

  • To unlock the original SmackDown Arena, win the heavyweight title in the path-of-a-champion mode with The Rock.

  • To unlock the Royal Rumble 2001 set, win the 30-man royal rumble with any wrestler, on any difficulty setting.

  • To unlock the WrestleMania X7 arena, use all of the available arenas in the exhibition mode.

  • Complete the path-of-a-champion mode with a created superstar to earn 10 bonus ability points. You can continue defending the title with this superstar for an extra two points each time until your points are maxed out at 10 each.

  • When making created superstars, it's best to start off with a clone of a superstar, which you've already maxed out on with ability points. That way, you don't have to earn more ability points for the superstars and need to change only their appearance and move lists.
