Video games have always been about providing an experience that you can't get as a living, breathing human being. And while many find delight in playing realistic games now that there are consoles with enough power to make them convincing, there will always be a place inside the gamer's heart for aliens, far-flung planets, and space travel. With this in mind, we have dug through the backlogs of online retailers to deliver some of the best prices on sci-fi video games anywhere on the Web. Dig in.

If you find yourself enjoying guilty pleasures such as Grand Theft Auto and State of Emergency, picking up a copy of Shadowrun is a no-brainer. As the pioneer of freestyle crime games, Shadowrun asks you to break into buildings, hack computer systems, and deliver packages of questionable content. Way ahead of its time, Shadowrun is an essential purchase for those who collect 2D classics and have an appreciation for innovation. Not to mention, the game is a steal at these prices.
Robocop - NES (1989)
Street Price $1.95

Who can forget the Robocop movies from the '80s? But what many do forget is that the Robocop video games were just as good. Following the plot of the feature-length film rather closely, the NES version of Robocop takes place in Detroit, where crime has taken precedence over order. You must take to the streets and clean up the riffraff known as O.C.P. Movies turned into video games are normally a poor lot, but Robocop is a definite exception. The prices couldn't be better, either.
Metroid - NES (1987)
Street Price: $8.95

There's not much that needs to be said about Metroid. It established the series' story and worlds and gave us Samus Aran, one of video games' most popular characters. We don't have to tell you how hard it is to find copies of the NES cartridge, and we were surprised to find some at such reasonable prices. If you're dying with anticipation for the new Metroid games on the Game Boy Advance and GameCube, there's no better way to brush up on your Metroid skills than with the original.
Zone of the Enders - PlayStation 2 (2001)
Street Price: $29.99

Despite positive reviews and a packed-in demo of the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2, Konami's Zone of the Enders was never a major force on the console sales charts. With the anticipation that was generated by this game, there are a lot of unsold copies lying on store shelves. One company's loss is your gain. You probably never believed you could pick up ZOE for this cheap--but that's what Game Collector is here for. Hurry, before it's too late to secure your own copy.
Future Cop: L.A.P.D. - - Sony PlayStation (1998)

Game designers have always wondered what the future may hold, and the developers of Future Cop most certainly have a bleak outlook. Gangs have overtaken Los Angeles, and it's up to you to jump in a walker mech and make the streets safe for humanity. As one of the original 3D mech games, Future Cop has an extensive arsenal and a healthy number of bosses, both of which make it a total blast to play. The PlayStation started off slow, making early gems like Future Cop a rare find--especially at prices this low.
Flashback: The Quest for Identity - Sega Genesis (1993)
Street Price: $2.95

The Game Boy Advance has proven that you don't need high-brass 3D graphics to make a game great. As one of the Genesis' most innovative and engrossing games, the prices found on GameBuyer for Flashback are ridiculously good. You play as Conrad Hart, an intergalactic officer who has lost his memory while being abducted by aliens. You must find Conrad's identity and stop the aliens before it's too late. Flashback's intricate plot is only trumped by its variety of gameplay. Every fan of 2D games should own Flashback.
Colony Wars - Sony PlayStation (1997)
Street Price: $7.25

If you're into space shooters, it's hard to go wrong with Colony Wars. Considered a modern classic by some, this 3D console shooter--which was one of the first--is still one of the best. If you've spent a significant amount of time shopping for games, then you know how hard it is to find releases from the PlayStation's early years. With multiple endings based upon performance, multiple ships to pilot, and varied mission objectives, fans of the genre would do well to pick up Colony Wars at this price.
Parasite Eve - Sony PlayStation (1998)
Street Price: $9.11

Like a lot of excellent PlayStation games, Parasite Eve never enjoyed the fiscal success it should have due to so many competitors in its genre. But those who have taken the time to play Square's cinematic RPG know that it stands as a refreshing experience. There aren't many used copies of Parasite Eve floating around, and finding it for this kind of price is unheard of. If you're a fan of science fiction, it's hard to find a better way to spend 10 bucks.

Robots are a popular choice of subject matter for science-fiction video games, and Gungriffon Blaze for the PlayStation 2 is one of the better mech games to be released on a next-generation console.
